All self inflicted by IU. Pretty much anyone we could hire and do not goes on to have success in the NCAA tourney its almost guaranteed. And anyone claiming this program is now in better shape than it was a year ago has a very very very low bar I guess. This entire tournament has been one big middle finger to IU. Purdue and Michigan are on a collision course for the Final Four in Indy. Louisville and Kentucky both won a game. Illinois and Houston both look great.
A Final Four with Michigan, Purdue, Duke, and Houston is a nightmare scenario.
Why is IU incapable of making a good hire more than once every fifty years? At least when they do it results in national titles.
Amen. I'm not claiming IU will be in the title hunt every season, but Cig's ship will keep sailing. A third straight CFP appearance isn't a guarantee, of course, but I'd be quite surprised if the Hoosiers aren't in the field of 12.Football drops back to 8-4? Dear lord. Questioning Cig after an undefeated national championship is a helluva take.
@arioznahoosier4554 This program is in a death spiral. Each successive coach buries the program more. It’s going to require huge NIL that would be better spent on football or another miraculous unicorn hire to get this sinking ship to port.
as a lifelong g IU fan, I would take 8-4 and be ok with it! Kind of what I expected w the cig hire to begin withIt sucks that Dolson will never be held accountable for screwing up basketball because Cignetti pulled a Jimmy Chitwood. Georgia, Miami, Alabama, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, and Ohio State all made the CFB playoff AND NCAA tournament.
If football drops back to 8-4 and basketball is still a coin flip to make the tournament, the fan anger will grow.
You all would be better servers to take my approach and admit IU hoops will never be great again. IU has tried several coaches- doesn’t work- and Nono e is capable of making a great hire

Raze the stadium and perform an exorcism on the rubble. It’s the only way.
Not hiring McCollum looks like another blunder by IU. Unreal.
So, to be clear, it's OK to hire a mid-major coach?

I do not think they will either that is why I have mostly become a football guy now and will enjoy it while it lasts. But until football starts we got nothing to talk about right now except the tourney and the portal. But as I have state I think DD will be able to get a 9 or 10 seed sometimes but I think that is likely going to the ceiling. That is why I can see him hanging on for a long time Dolson may realize that is as good as it is going to get for IU hoops. They may just need to accept they are not capable of picking an elite coach and just accept it.
same- I do like DD- I think he can coach and I liked a lot of the offense they ran. I just don’t think he is elite, and I’m not sure what IU is selling players? They need to tear down SSAH, build something new and stop trying to sell the history-You all would be better servers to take my approach and admit IU hoops will never be great again. @arioznahoosier4554 Folks crack me up. No one should be more acutely aware of what the right hire can do to a program than IU fans. You just watched the best turnaround ever in college sports for IU football, and you somehow think we can't turn it around in bball, with our history, resources, etc...? It only takes the right hire. While CDD is doing all he can to prepare for next year, Dolson needs to be supporting him, but also analyzing why we haven't had success in bball and working to fix that. It only takes 1 right hire. If you determine that isn't CDD then have the environment in place to try and insure it does happen with the next coach.
@kkott I agree KKott, we argue over the issue of IU still being a Blue-Blood, which usually ends being a discussion over what people actually think a Blue-Blood is or is not. I think IU has a shit ton of tradition and is a sleeping hot bed of college basketball fury. When we do get the right coach and see that success, the support will mirror that which was shown during the last two football seasons. We might have the right coach now, time will tell, although early returns are not favorable
I don’t understand why Woodson never tried to actually recruit, as in attend high school basketball games and AAU events. Did he really think this approach would work? You couldn’t ask for someone to better sabotage the program than that arrogant SOB. Dolson and Buckner deserve a black mark on their legacy.
If DeVries is as hardworking as they say. Hopefully he made it out to HS games, as he did last year when he was first hired. Eventually his work will pay off. Hopefully he has introduced himself to all the freshman, sophomore, and junior studs in the state and region. See them maybe in 2027 and 2028 and beyond come to Indiana.
