If reports are correct and UNC hires Malone, I applaud their outside-the-box thinking. But ... an NBA guy is a huge gamble (as we know). First, Malone hasn't coached in college since 2001 ... and only reached the assistant level. Second, his NBA record is just okay (.562). Sure, he did win a championship in Denver, but it's hard not to be competitive with the world's best player.

Who knows what goes on behind closed doors, but this seems like a Plan Q move to me. That said, if UNC's top candidates declined or weren't available, it might not be the worst idea. However it unfolds, it will be damn interesting.

This will be a flop hire. There's no reason whatsoever to think he'll have any success at this level.  He'll coast on the UNC resources for a few years and give off some false positives until it slowly sinks in that he's nowhere near the level that fanbase is accostumed to.

Personally, I love the hire. I hope they can experience some of what IU fans have had to deal with for 30 years.

I cannot think of one NBA hire that has worked out. Howard did ok for a couple years but that is about it. I highly doubt is will work out but that will be on them we know how NBA coaches usually work out.

As I state about Pitino and Cal do not count they started off in college so that is totally different. I am talking just NBA only guys trying to come and coach college with no college experience. Hoiberg did have a good year but he has made the  only NCAA 6 of 12 years so I would hardly call him a big success I would say an average coach maybe.

@thehoosierhuddle Cal and Pitino? They were successful college coaches before their NBA stints. And Hoiberg coached at Iowa State before going to the Bulls.

Do you have any valid examples?

Michigan hasn't even hit a three and is still up 4. Im guessing they run away with this in the second half. Just too much talent.

Thanks for nothing, Quinn. He got a front row seat to see the consequences of his meddling and nepotism.

Hats off to Michigan. They got it done.

While I regarded God as a tyrant I thought my sin a trifle; But when I knew Him to be my Father, then I mourned that I could ever have kicked against Him. When I thought God was hard, I found it easy to sin; but when I found God so kind, so good, so overflowing with compassion, I smote upon my breast to think that I could ever have rebelled against One who loved me so, and sought my good.” C. H. Spurgeon

Now that the season is over, we can all look forward to an underwhelming portal class and a 10 seed in the tournament next year if we are lucky. Doorknob could only dream of doing what Dusty has done.

Nice little feather in the cap for the B10 to lay claim to the championship in football and men’s and women’s hoops at the same time.  Willing to bet that hasn’t happened before.

Nope but expect more from dusty that guy will have killer rosters moving forward. Just no way he will not attract top talent after seeing what he did now with this killer roster.  It never felt that close in the second half even though it got close.  He will be the guy to   chase in the big ten and im not saying that because im pissed at quinn its the truth

@arioznahoosier4554 I've said all along I don't think you have to rely on 3s, if you are efficient on offense otherwise and defend well. The first determinant to shooting a lot of 3s, should be "do I have great shooters"? If the answer is no, then you shouldn't shoot a lot of 3s. If anything I think UM took too many 3s, as they aren't a great shooting team, but are very efficient offensively otherwise. Take half those misses and give them 2 pts instead of 0 and it's a runaway. I'm glad for UM. I didn't think they played particularly smartly in the 2nd half and still won. Just a super long, talented and athletic team that was very well-constructed. Happy for those kids and Dusty, although it hurts too, because I believe we had a great shot at him if we'd acted a year earlier. Seems like a good dude and he kept that douche Hurley from winning again.

@jj_mcclure happened in 2007. The SEC had Florida for football and men's hoops. Tennessee won the women's basketball title.

Next week the Big 10 can add hockey to their run. Michigan and Wisconsin both in the frozen four so a good chance one of them grabs the title.

B1G won wrestling a few weeks back, as well (PSU).
