@hoosiers94 Except when that dog does hunt, and we beat the hell out of a handful of teams on our schedule, playing a style we haven't seen in Bloomington since some of the good/fun Tom Crean teams.  I'm as concerned as anyone about some things with CDD and his team.  For me, my chief concern is their inconsistency in effort and focus.  But I'm fairly certain the intensity of my concerns are heightened, because of how fun and exciting we are to watch, when we're playing well.  That makes it more frustrating when we stop moving offensively, when we stop battling for rebounds, etc... But to totally disregard those long stretches of beautiful basketball, because of the bad stretches... 11 games in to his first season... Its absurd, to me.

@hoosiers94 We're less than a year removed from a coaching search where literally zero guys like you're inferring we could just snap our fingers and get, were lined up for the job.  And if there happen to be any of them out there that had any shred of remorse after CDD was hired, that they didn't consider the job more seriously... that shred would be wiped clean if we canned CDD after year 1.  All of this is obvious stuff.

If Dusty May calls Dolson and says he hates what his alma mater is going through, and he wants to come fix it all...sure... make that move, and make that happen.  I can't think of a single other, mildly realistic coach, that's anywhere near what you're inferring, that would be in play.

we didn't offer a 9m salary. And you are surmising but you don't know that anymore than I do. Again old world thinking ... this portal and NIL is changing the landscape daily

I hear you , but IF is a big word.  We can for the most part execute it against the Bethune Cookmans , maybe not the Incarnate word though, but going to be hard to do so against the likes of MSU, UM, etc.

"IF" they are able to resurrect things and keep improving and not load up and down the court and execute out of bounds plays and perhaps DD gets in someone's ass when they screw up in order to light a fire then perhaps I'll change my tune. Until then I'm not buying it. Same song and dance as the last 25 years

@hoosiers94 The concerns are there...but we already did against Marquette, KState, and Penn State...and for a large chunk of the Louisville game.  Michigan?  Maybe not, but they look like they could have a historically good defense, so we won't be alone if that's true.  I'm sure we'll have rough stretches against PU, MSU, etc... but like Louisville and Kentucky, we'll have good stretches too, especially in Bloomington.  And the fact that we'll have those good stretches, and compete with them, with lesser talent and size...if that does happen... bodes fairly well for the system and concepts he's working on being sound.

@hoosiers94 There were multiple reports throughout the last year or two, that they'd offered brinks truck type of money to guys like Stevens.  And that they reached out to many of the known college guys like Pearl.  Lets say CDD goes 7-13 in the B10, misses out on NCAA, and they fire him.  Who do you think would want the job for 9M+?

@hoosiers94 We can be the first and then end up with Randy Wittman as interim coach for a year or 2 or even worse.

Buckner?  He sure killed it in that one season with the Mavs winning almost 16% of his games.

Wouldn't surprise me. He'd love to grift more money out of the university to line his pockets.

as doomsday as you think I'm being , you're swinging the same way by projecting we could do no better than Wittman or Buckner with a 9m salary and top 5 NIL.

If we fire a coach after 1 year then yeah I don't think we'll land anybody better than a Wittman almni type at best. You keep talking about the changing world we live in but seem to also completely ignore the many realities of that world. Big time coaches aren't jumping around anymore (and there's not many of them even out there at this point).

What big name coach did UofL hire? Would you have been thrilled with hiring Kelsey?

UK for crying out loud had to resort to hiring Mark Pope. Would that have gotten you excited?

If we move on from DDV after 2-3 years it will almost certainly be for another up-and-comer who is not yet proven at an elite level. Same as every other top program in the country right now who just had an opening. That is the state of the game.

We fire him after 1 year and we'll be hiring Wittman or Isiah (Buckner would also be vindicated in his own eyes after we pushed out his grifting buddy so I'd fully expect him to inject himself right back in).

We missed our chance at May who while more proven than these other guys was still not a sure thing and plenty of ppl on these boards were not in favor of him. There is no candidate that is going to unite the fanbase. There just isn't.

Either DDV turns things around enough to get donor buy in and gets this thing going or he doesn't. He'll get 2 or 3 years otherwise and we'll do this song and dance again with another unproven guy. Bank on it.

you may be right, but it doesn't mean we should. Same shit expecting different results = insanity. Stir the pot a little. We don't have much to lose. TBH

It is the wild Wild West and not just for players.  It is not unusual to see a player play for three teams in three years.  IMHO, we will see what is happening with players happen with coaches.  And it’s not going to just be a coach that keeps jumping to a new program (like the guy that just abandoned his playoff bound fb team to go to conference rival LSU).  It’s going to be guys getting fired too.  And why shouldn’t they?

it’s a new era.

If players can jump from team to team every year should they not be able to be "fired" also? Or, as Barkley suggested, maybe they should have to sign contracts for two or three years? Maybe they should have buyout conditions so we get some of our money back if they leave early? Or maybe trades should be permitted? Say, up until January 1 schools can trade players to fill identified gaps.

Nowhere else in pro sports can a player just jump from team to team to team every year for more money.

I don't think there's much to gain either unless you already have a proven guy 100% committed beyond the scenes in a can't backout/refuse situation which is entirely unrealistic.

Who do you think his coming here anyways? What big proven names are going to jump over here now after skipping all the other big openings and this one a million times in the past?

We haven’t played beautiful basketball against the two tourney (maybe if Uk makes it) teams.  We got blitzed by Lou and they played defensively last 10 mins or so, only reason we didn’t get beat by 20+. Until I see us play beautiful against good teams, and away from home. I’m going to think this is not a tourney team.

And UL just got absolutely hammered by 3 loss Tennessee.

well we won't know that until they try. I mean full out no holds barred.  I don't believe they threw a brinks truck to Stevens. I think that's heresay.
I'd start with Golden, Oats, Drew, McCasland, Otzelberger
all of these guys blow DD away  .. only 2 of them have won titles thus far but they all out resume DD   And would do better than him
