that just bolsters my point. He's not been given any measure of freedom or autonomy to make hiring/firing decisions. There are AD's who do have that power. Obviously when are background checks etc have been cleared , I'm not talking about him not following a set of principles. If he finds the funds and the backing to substantiate his decision and illustrates why it's the right decision it should be his to make and they should honor that otherwise wtf is he doing there. I understand he answers to higher folks but if they've given him a title in name only then cut the cord
The hell he didn't. Essentially, he let Quinn hijack his job. Maybe SD had no recourse against the Evil Empire, but it still happened on his watch.Dolson didn’t get “bullied”.
IU should have sold its soul and hired Pitino. He may be a sleazy vampire, but the guy wins. And the NCAA is a lawless shitshow, so IU wouldn't have to worry about another Sampson situation.

He did but had he put up any resistance at all he likely would've lost his job if you believe what Leary and Evans said. It wasn't just Buckner but also the Cooks and Simons who were fully behind Woodson and were basically threatening to permanently pull all funding had he not been given a 4th year.

Greenspan getting bullied by Herbert over race and being forced to hire Sampson when he had Beilein locked and ready to go is just so unforgivable. It's hard to believe how much the administration has screwed up the past 25 years. I sometimes wonder why we have any fans left anymore.
IU's most sound basketball decision this millenium was hiring Archie. Obviously it was a disaster, but it made basketball sense ... and was universally applauded. It's hard to believe how much the administration has screwed up the past 25 years. I sometimes wonder why we have any fans left anymore.

It all stems from people who know nothing about running an athletics department being unable to keep their fingers out of it. From Myles Brand to Adam Herbert to the BoT. That's why you have an athletic director. Athletics is an auxiliary; a non-academic function of the university. Academic administrators need to stay the F out of it.
Needs to be a documentary on “the curse of knight” that details all the hirings over the last 25 years.

Dolson didn’t get bullied. He got the AD job for some very specific reasons of which he was fully aware and, given his decades long association with IU, he knew exactly how things worked. It’s never been a one person decision, and it wasn’t when Woodson was hired, retained or even when he was told his support was disappearing.

When we were winning at a very high rate, several “academic administrators” and BoT members were heavily involved in the basketball program.
The only mistake Dolson made here was the wrong Drake guy.
Hopefully it will work out for the best. He is a pretty solid coach. Or so they say. I'm not good enough to judge, just a long time fan.
If Coach DeVries can't get the pocketbooks opened wide enough, then Scott Dolson needs to get that done. Give his choice of coach some firepower. This year is what it is, but need to reload and more, for next year.
Jimmy's and Joe's go with the Xs and Os.

@jackskip23 he may have known that Buckner and the cronies would put their unqualified hands all over everything, but he still would have never hired Bigfoot nor retained him if he was allowed to do his job instead of lining the pockets of alumni grifters. Not even sure what point you think you're making but its landing flat.
At the end of the day, Buckner stuck his ignorant nose into things to get a gig for his buddy that his buddy was not qualified for and then made sure he was retained well past the point he should have been let go. He also thought Dusty wasn't "good enough" for IU, so here we are.

Dusty wasn’t good enough for IU but DeVries was? No wonder Quinn went 13-69 as an NBA coach.
