It was never about access it was about politics and supporting their buddy.  Ferguson is the chairman of the Cook board and was Woody's mentor.  They don't care about winning.

IUBB has had many bad moments.  But the cronyism with Woody is the lowest of the low imo.

@dbmhoosier They're looking good this year. He'd be very unproven still, though. I don't see why the donors would get excited about that. Also, since he'd need to turn things around in the first 10 games or get fired why would he accept the job?

because he has the confidence to know he can.  That's what you're missing. How many division 1 coaches have you met in person. I've met dozens.  None lack confidence in themselves... ones that are any good anyway.  Their ego and that pay check and notoriety and the ass kissing that still comes with this job , albeit a shadow of what it once was ... that's why

DD is much more likely to get it done than he is to be fired before two full years.

,

He will get probably three seasons cause that's what iu does. We shall see but so far not impressed.

Agree. He’s not going anywhere now, and he’ll get three seasons to sink or swim. The money that funded NIL under Woodson isn’t universally happy with how things were handled over the last few seasons, so we’ll have to see whether some or all of it comes back. There are definitely some hard feelings that exist, though that’s been the case since well before MW was hired.

Why?  They think Woody should've had more time?  That's absurd.  He got a 4th year that no one else would've ever given him especially with Dusty being available.  No one else would've ever hired him in the first place.  If I'm Dolson I tell those donors to kick rocks.

no because they're tired of losing and they're underwhelmed by the new hire. And some were just crony's of Quinn's and Woodys. So a little of both.  Those that were crony's weren't likely to give again anyway.
someone like myself said hard pass after woody got a 4th year. And this new dope with the personality of a door knob isn't any better. At least he's respectful I'll give him that

Coaches today have to not only coach but they have to sell more than ever.  And not just to the kids but to the donors   If they were smart they'd start fundraising like a political campaign.., asking anyone and everyone for 10, 25, 50 bucks annually.  They will get much more. As most see what others donate and want to out do them.
like a go fund me page.  My neighbor gave 250 , shit I'm giving 500.  It's contagious and always works.  That's what the football success can do.  Football rules the roost

You need to generate excitement with new hires but IU always hires someone who generates no excitement so here we are. I guess we have like three guys injured still and I could not tell you one thing about it if fact I am not sure I even remember their names. A decade ago I would have known everything about ever player. Woodson and Archie really put this program to new lows.  Heck there was far more excitement in creans first season with one win.

There are some people spending a lot of time on here posting about how much they don't care about this team or IU Basketball anymore.

For me it is just utter disappointment. You really had to try to screw this up over the last 20 year, and man we did it!  Fans are finally done with the bball program.  There was prob 10k at the game last night.  We aren't gonna be able to tell recruits check out this environment, 17k no matter who we are playing!  The environment officially sucks, balconies are empty every game. We are an average big ten program now.  No different than Maryland, Iowa, hell even Rutgers and Northwestern.  Just sad.  I am too young to have appreciated Knight.  All of you that got to see that, you are lucky.  Bball will never be the same again unless we get lucky and hire a Cig.  Sure it could happen, but it could happen at any big ten program as well.  We have no better shot than Minnesota.  Merry Christmas!!!

The five minutes or so I saw the balcony looked totally empty. Sad state of affairs but people likely have had enough.

simple for me:

i have been on these forums for 3O plus years.  I enjoy the conversation.  I find it entertaining and I guess it’s a habit.

I don’t have the same interest in the basketball team.  It wouldn’t bother me a bit to never watch another game.  During the old days I scheduled around the games.  I could name every players # and hometown.  I see nothing unusual about coming here, and not spending time watching games, following recruiting, etc (outside of what is talked about here).

frankly, I enjoy the drama of this forum.

edit:  I’m not saying I haven’t see IU play this season.  I’ve watched parts of a few games.  Maybe I will be curious enough to watch some B10 play.  But, it’s not like the old days. Can my enthusiasm get back to where it was?  no chance.  Could it go up?  Possibly.

I was encouraged by the Siena game. Not the fact that they outscored us in the second half. But some decent athletes gave us some different issues but we looked good for some stretches.

Siena schedule is so soft that I think they will roll through it and end up with a gaudy won-loss record. They seem well coached.

I think it's an OK win.

No, they think 25 years of lousy hires and very average teams is enough. Lousy leadership leads to lousy results, and an entire generation of fans has been chased away by it. Maybe DeVries fixes it over time, but the culture of the program was destroyed a long time ago, even before Knight was fired.

And  that generation is actually fine with the results woodson gave. I would read comments on facebook and many thought he was doing a fine job. They are already making excuses for DD claiming you cannot expect him to do well his first season blah blah blah. Its mostly a losers mentality or the mentality of an average at best program. That is pretty much what IU has now become.
