Look at the CFP rankings from last night — it’s very correlated to record. There is more upside with record. Losses are very damaging.
And our 2024 season was much more than just playing Louisville or not. If we make two fewer mistakes at OSU that’s a closer loss and maybe we don’t fall as far in the rankings and have a home playoff game. Our issue last year wasn’t scheduling.
@tammany if last year was seeded like this year, we would have hosted the 8/9 game, but because the Boise and Big 12 champs were rated lower we got bumped down two spots.

With the way the committee ranks things. I was fine with Old Dominion. I thought it was an interesting game.
But those in favor or cupcakes always try to pretend there's no upside to strength of schedule. This is. Whether it's worth it or not is the question. And it isn't... Usually. Just tired of the 'always assume we lost to that mid p4 team!' arguments.
And then on the flipside 'the committee won't rank us any better with a win over a P4 from another conference!' Which is also wrong.
If we had lost to Louisville, we'd have been out of the CFP last year. Period.
So yes, if you can somehow magically guarantee a win vs. Louisville or another P4 non-con opponent each year, then by all means, let's do so. And make them all home games, while you're at it.
But since we don't live in that magical utopia, I'll take WIU over Louisville 10/10, because there was no punishment for playing that softer schedule last year or this year.
...10-2?So please tell me why would IU change anything until they are forced to. It has not kept them out of the Playoff and Quite frankly a 10-2 IU team with a loss at Louisville instead of a 77-3 win over Western Illinois doesn't sniff the CFP.
At 11-1 and with a win over Louisville we would have a home game in the playoffs and not have faced Notre Dame at their place.

Im not saddling us with a loss. I’m saddling us with a POTENTIAL loss, which playing WIU doesn’t do.
The conference schedule provides adequate opportunities to get quality wins. No need for a hard non-conference schedule that wears down the team and increases the likelihood of injuries.
It's a 16 game season where you play 13 P4 games this season and will hopefully do so in the upcoming years..
And like it or not, our depth is potentially our biggest team weakness until the fruits of winning the National Championship this season ripen
