Would expect this is a response to the new SEC scheduling rules for next year with 9 conf games, and 1 P4 OOC game. They already had FSU on the schedule.
NOW that SEC made that change, their criticism of IU's OOC schedule would be palatable.
@iunorth Didn't think it made sense to cancel those games before, and I still don't. Ironic if we now have to troll to find a P5 opponent. We're an outsider to the party that is upper level college football and we're not going to back into the playoffs. We need to have decent opponents on our schedule, or it will bite us in the rear more often than it helps us by avoiding them. Now I think it's a moot point anyway. Gonna have to add them back after paying to get them off our schedule. I wonder if UVA filled that date....
IU may replace UVA with a top-15 home/home. That could work better — if we lose it’s not a bad loss and if we win it’s more impressive with upside to our resume.
Big Ten will likely follow SEC's lead and require a P4 non-con opponent.
Either that or both conferences will turn that P4 non-con into a conference challenge game.
Of course, the Big Ten has more schools, so we will have to do something with those 2.. Notre Dame maybe and then find a P4 game for remaining school.

I agree......playing all these weak sisters only made sense when we were trying to eek out 6 wins to go to a trash bowl game. College football administrators should be pistol whipped for creating that incentive when it results in hundreds of regular season games that fans don't want to see.
We'll have 50 recruits at an opening game with six thousand empty seats. Probably couldn't be helped this year, but no reason for it next year.
Why exactly are we not going back to the playoff? I’m still going to advocate for getting UK back on the schedule. IMO they are the best fit for IU as we have a long history of playing them and they are SEC. Outside of Vanderbilt they may be the most susceptible to us winning against. That’s not any disrespect to Stoops, but I like Cig better. 😊 My next pick for selfish reasons would be Georgia Tech in ACC since I could easily attend the games in Atlanta.
I don’t think Cig is going to let the SEC show him up like that. By this time next year I think we will have some new P4 opponents on the schedule. Just need to give them time to focus on it. Right now all focus is where it should be and that’s winning the next game.
@olympian97 UK already has a yearly power 4 game with UofL so I doubt they are looking for two annual power 4 games. The two closest annual options for us are Cincinnati and Mizzu who may be adding Kansas. I would like to see a VaTech game. Similar stadiums and Blacksburg is beautiful.
