@hoosier-clarion Or were on a level playing field and our coach is simply better.  But to pretend age isn't a factor is silly.  It's a credit to Cig.  The man is incredible.

Pretending like age is the reason we won 16 games and a natty when some teams (including Miami) were older than us is just ridiculous.  Sure, it was helpful, but as tammany said, it wasn't the main reason.

We had better coaching and we have a staff that has a better eye for talent and getting players that fit the team.  And seems like we spent our NIL wisely instead of blowing bunches of it on just a few top rated players.

If you're going to quote me let's try to do so warmly and accurately.  Otherwise you're wasting my time debating things people didn't say.  Are we putting percentages to what factors influenced our results? NIL.  Coaching?  Assistant Coach salaries?  Schedule?  Luck?  Age?  Perhaps many things went into it, including age.  Anyone who has ever played a sport knows age makes a difference.  We're bracketed by age from the moment we step onto a field.  One of the many things Cig needs to be commended for is recruiting older players.

@bar-down That's what is ridiculous about folks trying to make that into a put down. He recruited kids with eligibility who were available for any one to sign and they chose not to. And now want to bitch about it and act like IU somehow cheated. I guess I might be saying that too if I looked so foolish and he just beat my team of higher paid/ranked players.

It's not necessarily age, but the experience the kid had.  There are kids that are 22-23 that haven't seen much of the field.  If that's the case, Cigs probably not looking at you.  If you were a starter with a season or two of production, Cig feasts on those players.

Luck plays a big roll as well.  A lot of things broke the right way for us to have the season we did.

@boogie Agreed.  And yes it was a confluence of the karma debt IU was owed.

Can you imagine the temerity of these dirty SEC schools with their brown bags of cash crying about IU winning a national championship while following the rules?  It's comical.
