With our offense, I'll be fine with the book on beating Indiana becomes short dink and dunk and long drives. With our defense, those will end up in field goals often enough that our offense will outscore them anyway even with less time.
I think its hard to make many calls after a game that has a number of strong variables in play. I think NT got some of the benefit we did in Cig Yr 1. No tape to scout on. I think there's a very good possibility that NT goes on to be a 8-10 win team (counting bowl game), similar to ODU and Kennesaw St. last year. Both seemed like throwaway games on paper but both teams ended their seasons with 10 wins.
The under-the-radar stat that I find humorous: Davion Chandler has 2 catches in his IU career, both for long touchdowns totaling 107 yards. That route he ran for the TD on Saturday gave me big Omar vibes. Good play!
@middawg are you saying this based on other games from the first 2 years or just this one? Who else are you labeling dink and dunk teams from the first 2 years?
It's something to keep an eye on, but I'm not concerned about results from this one game, because: 1) each game 1 has had disappointing aspects that the staff has addressed as the season progresses. 2) the heat (I think it's going to affect a team from IN more than 1 from TX). 3) They were juggling lots of combinations of players, whether from the heat or just to get a read on who our best rosters are for different situations. 4) No film on what to expect from UNT, 5)This staff has produced amazing results and on paper this is the most talented/highly ranked team we've had. They've had 7 days to work on these issues, so I'm expecting a team that looks at least 7% better vs Howard!

Not impressed. All the guy does is catch touchdown passes.

Overreaction takeaways.....probably.
1. Jones has to be better in pass defense, especially picking up backs, more aggressive, less cushion, better recognition, and being positioned better.
2. Saw a time or two where I thought Hardy could have shed a block better to disrupt plays.
Also on Hardy, on that PD he had, sort of like to see him make a ballhawk pick attempt instead of playing it textbook.
3. Utzinger playing corner and pass defense. Hoping this was due to the corner injuries.
I came away from the game wondering if it was a mistake not to get an all world LB in the portal.
4. Gandy, rough. Hoping he and Harris wasn't as close a competition to start as we were led to believe.
Harris's ability to stay healthy going to torment us fans all season?
5. Landino with just under 12 min remaining in the 4th had a chance at a pick and he was hopping around like he missed a chance at glory, loved it
6. Hoover has to get his feet right to drive the ball to his right sideline on throws to Becker.
7. Beebe bailed on a blitz pickup to leak out which led to a Hoover sack I believe. Easy correction.
8. Read someplace where Schott was missing all sorts of blocks, I wasn't watching TEs closely, but didn't see anything egregious.
9. Did notice Morris missed a assigned block on a blitzer badly, which caused a problem. Possible miscommunication with the TE on Carter's side.
10. Great blitz pickup by Turbo on the Chandler TD.
11. Ajani's dance moves on TDs need their own video edit.
12. Liked the end around using Turbo and the Landino & Hjelle jumbo short yardage package.
