Lived long enough to see Indiana win a Natty!
RIP Coach.
Very similar to John Wooden. Had a great reputation, yet cheated his ass off. Sanctioned at every job he had, I believe.

if you aren't cheating, you aren't trying. jj
Many of the winners were either cheating or walking a fine line with the rules.
My Dad and I had a meme going whenever Lou Holtz was on, where we'd repeat his "I'm scared to death of Rice" that he said with a totally straight face when his number one ranked Notre Dame had the cupcake 0 for about their last 30 Rice team coming up that weekend.
Seemed OK though. RIP Lou, enjoyed your commentary and watching your teams.
Yes, he was with the Ohio States of the world, in that recruiting rules are mainly for the others. Like Wooden.

Holtz wasn’t fired by Arkansas, and I’m pretty sure his only NCAA violations were at Minnesota, including one that involved paying tuition for a player’s class. Not exactly a Tark, Switzer, Locke or Ellenberger.

Per usual, you're wrong.
Minnesota (2 yrs plus a bowl ban), Notre Dame (2 years - does Kimberly Dunbar ring a bell?) and South Carolina (3 yrs plus loss of scholarships) all faced probation

You’re right on the Arkansas matter, but his only transgressions were at MN. He wasn’t found to have been involved in the Dunbar matter at ND, and the NCAA found him guilty of no violations there or at South Carolina.

Was Holtz cited by the NCAA in either the South Carolina or Notre Dame situations?
