I think the layoff is absolutely perfect for us. We honestly didn't seem ready last year at Notre Dame.

We need to heal up. I'll trust the team leaders and coaches to be ready to bring it, layoff or not.

How was IU not ready? IU picked off ND on their first drive and should’ve scored but Rourke made an awful read. That loss wasn’t because IU wasn’t ready. It was because ND was better.

Yeah, you are right. We played our best game. Glad we didnt get a bye.

I remember an early pick and an early long touchdown by them. But memories differ.

@openwheel But how does that mean IU wasn’t ready? What constitutes ready? Game plans go out the window when you can’t block.
Is the long lay off a legit concern, of course. It’s rest vs. rust, but IU needed the rest to get guys healthy this year.

I thought Cig even seemed distracted, going by his pregame. I mean, not fair of me, but oh well.

And wed have put Leonard on the ground a few of those key plays he escaped on maybe, on a little rest.

Have to be there once, guess. Now weve been there before.

Im only saying just not worried at all about three weeks. After playing an extra game. We need it.

Its not the same as the days of playing your last game in November and then a bowl on New Years or even the week after that. Thats too long. This is just right.

I'm a little worried about Daley and Wyatt being out. One thing most of those teams have over us is depth.  Those big shoes to fill imo.  Hoping we have another horse in the barn

@hoosiers94 they have 3 weeks to figure it out, those are two big losses, but time for Haines to earn that $3 million.

I don’t think we beat ND last year with another week of rest / healing / prep. They were just better, especially at home.

Im not arguing that. But, no layoff didnt do anything for us. We werent in some great *game mode*.

A few weeks sure as hell wont harm us, this year.

Much better to be as healthy as possible and then kick ass.

Especially since its a gauntlet with more games.

I do worry about being rusty though. We have to avoid whatever happened to Oregon and Georgia last year.

@walt542 1 ran into a buzz saw (more worried about an Oregon type showing) and the other played ND with their backup QB. I

We beat two teams (Ohio State and Oregon) that are vastly superior to Oklahoma and Alabama.  We'll be able to handle either team in the Rose Bowl.

@auburnhoosier Bama's had that talent all year. Not that different than PSU, Clemson, etc... They can, but they haven't, and at some point, you are who your record says you are. I think they're pretty equal challenges for IU. One has a better D and the other is more well-rounded, but I don't feel like there's a huge advantage to one over the other. Today my thinking is that maybe we'd be a little better off playing Bama, especially if Simpson is a little banged up, but then you have to recognize that if we play them, they put it together enough to beat OU at home. Same if OU wins. At this point, they're all going to be good teams and tests!

@walt542 The same thing that happened to us last year: OSU and ND! We've had a layoff, which should help with recovery and developing a workaround for Daley. That layoff and the distractions from the B10 crown and the Heisman could certainly be a problem, but I have the utmost faith in our coaching staff to work around it. It's been a tremendous year to get where we are, but if we give anything less than our best, we can be beaten. But, we've still crossed a bunch of hurdles this year we never have, and have cemented a good chunk of our staff for next year, so regardless, it's been a great year. We know we can win it all, and if we don't, I'm confident we'll learn the lessons from that and come back better prepared next time, just like we have this year. Don't see IU and this staff going anywhere. Go Hoosiers!

@hoosiers94 I prefer that Alabama wins. I moved to within 15 miles of the Sooner stadium in 84 and I rooted for Oklahoma and never thought that IU would at some point play them. Everyone knows that I am a Hoosier, but no one has mentioned my #1 Hoosier football team, but if Oklahoma were to beat IU I'am sure I would never hear the end of it. 🙁

There is no way we'd lose to Oklahoma.  Start flying that IU flag with pride, and remind your neighbors who's #1.

Either UA or OU will be a huge test for us.
