Maybe Kentucky has a player or two capable of competing in the B1G for Indiana?
If so, if they can help us win, guess we can take them despite their obvious flaws in judgement.
Alberto is ahead of Fernando at this stage of his career as a redshirt Freshman. Fernando had his first really good year in 2024.
I think Alberto can be special here.
Personally, I think Cherry transfers as he is so far behind the curve right now.
I think the decommit of Cash Herrera is a sign that he thought he wouldn’t be getting in the field here soon enough. Probably sees Alberto as the heir apparent.
@big-red-cb-v-2-0 Do you have some background info that leads you to think that, about Alberto? I'm not saying you're wrong, I just don't know how it could be gleaned from what he's shown in games, thus far. He hasn't really made all that many throws, and rarely is facing opponents top players, at the times he's coming in to games.
I think the lure of getting a really good, really proven mid major ish quarterback, is they've proven they can manage entire games, put up numbers, etc... I'm not sure we know Alberto can do those things, yet.
I think they go get a proven mid major, that would be happy with the bump in pay and the opportunity to compete with Alberto for a starter spot...but that wouldn't be expecting it. And you bump Alberto's pay to coincide, or even surpass that of the mid major guy coming in. If, at that point, he leaves because he feels overrecruited, then so be it.
Nick Marsh is in the portal (or going to it)
@gros-louis Yes please. I'd reach a little, WR spending wise, to get him. I'll bet every school in the country clamors for him, though. Price tag is gonna be too high. Could probably get two productive lower level guys for the price he'll command.
Don't know about his character, but if it good I would love to see him here next year!Nick Marsh is in the portal (or going to it)
@walt542 Watch out for Notre Dame on this one. Returning proven QB. Tons of money. Notre Dame notoriety.
Not questioning it at all. I just said that I do not know what it is and that is very important to Cig.Don't know about his character, but if it good I would love to see him here next year!Nick Marsh is in the portal (or going to it)
Why do you question his character?
@iunorth - I would counter that to say, what has he done to make you think he wouldn't? He is 18 for 24 (75% completion %) for 286 yards, 5 TD's and 1 INT. Thats a 235 passer rating and a 99.4 QBR. He's also rushed for 184yds on 11 carries....16.7ypc and a TD. All of those stats are higher than Fernandos.
You have to realize; he played with a lot of IU backups in AND the teams we were playing against weren't benching their starters when he was in. So its not like he was racking it up with his first team offense against a 2nd string defense. Alberto did phenomenal in the time that he did play. I think this kid has been cultivated perfectly in this environment to take the helm and not miss a beat. I for one expect big things for him next year.
Cig on recruiting during the postseason:
"Wednesday is the early signing period for the high school guys. Fortunately, they're all committed, and our recruiting department can handle most of that. Coaches can focus on their preparation. I won't even get into the portal part of it."
Thank you for reading Hoosier Huddle
Somebody here is pretty high on him. He’s available.

@cg-paul I know some writers here are high on him, but I’d hope we can do better. That may be hard to do if we aren’t bringing in a guaranteed starter. So, in that regard I wouldn’t be upset if he was the guy, but his efficiency stats leave a lot to be desired. He is currently ranked around 25 in efficiency which isn’t terrible, but also not great. That’s why I prefer Mestemaker, but he is most likely going somewhere to start next year. Brad Jackson at Tx St and Amari Odom at Kennesaw state are both hovering around the top 10 efficiency and Jackson has over 3000 passing yards. Odom has less, but was also battling Dexter Williams earlier in the season. I could see them being targets as well if either decide to portal.
Tayven played OK from what I saw. Still not a natural in some ways. But he improved. I saw a couple poor games and a couple good ones. He has that arm, a good arm. Fairly mobile.
Solid QB. I am very surprised he isn't staying with Frost... Frost put him right back in after out for injury, even though the backups moved the offense about as well.
