The last few weeks we have seen Mendoza's odds sort of shrink, not much but other players have seen some light. If you are a bettor, I feel like now is the best time to lean into it. We just played 3 really good defenses and from here out, Mendoza is likely to put up silly numbers like we saw earlier in the season.
MSU - Around 80th passing defense
UCLA - Hasn't given up much passing yards but teams were up and running on them.
Maryland - Around 70th passing defense.
PSU - Good passing defense but have fallen apart of late
Wisky - Around 60th passing defense
Purdue - Around 90th passing defense
Great post. Was thinking same. We might put up stupid numbers in a few of these remaining games. Hope we stay focused as we should be favored in all of them.
Mendoza's a strong #3 right now. Barring injury, he'll probably finish somewhere in the top 5. Given that our schedule going forward is so favorable going forward he's hopefully not going to have a bad loss the rest of the season. On the other hand, there's no dynamic wins either, so improving his position probably rests on something bad happening for Simpson & Beck.
After the first 3 games I posted to the effect that he was really going to have to step up his play for us to have a great season. Ask and you shall receive, as he's been outstanding the last 3 games. Same is true for the DE, Wyatt, who I was ragging on after the first 3 games. Which all goes to show, I think, how great our coaching staff is. #1 without a doubt, imo, in the nation. Don't see how it can be argued.
As for the Heisman....I think Simpson is the best QB I've seen this year. I really like his toughness and running ability. And Beck has been fantastic as well. I think that Simpson, Beck, and Mendoza, in that order, deserve to be considered.
As long as we're talking about talented QBs.....the kid from Washington? Holy shit, he's good. So fast and also aware and a good passer. I like his game more than Moore (Oregon) and Washington (MD) and underwood (UM).
I dont think Beck is a serious contender.
Simpson from Alabama and Maiava from USC (should they beat Notre Dame) are the only players in the competition with Mendoza this year
Heisman Trophy odds entering Week 8
- QB Carson Beck, Miami (+300)
- QB Ty Simpson, Alabama (+320)
- QB Fernando Mendoza, Indiana (+430)
- QB Marcel Reed, Texas A&M (+1600)
- QB Julian Sayin, Ohio State (+1800)
- WR Jeremiah Smith, Ohio State (+1800)
- QB Gunner Stockton, Georgia (+2500)
- QB Devon Dampier, Utah (+2500)
- QB Jayden Maiava, USC (+2500)
- QB CJ Carr, Notre Dame (+2500)
- QB Trinidad Chambliss, Ole Miss (+2500)
@bradstevens Thats today. Beck has an easy schedule but I think Mendoza goes on a tear here at the end. With our way schedule.
@yothn Beck isnt putting up the stats to win Heisman. Their own fanbase wants Bain (DE for Miami) to win the Heisman. I see this as a race between Mendoza and Simpson, with a possible race entry by Maiava from USC if they take down ND
I will be rooting for Louisville tonight (gross) and for Tennessee this weekend, short of throwing 5 TDs a game Mendoza will likely need a little outside assistance to get the trophy. We just dont throw the ball enough to get the eye popping stats

MGM has Fernando at +450 right now.
FD has IU at -130 to go undefeated. I can't fathom that.
Hope is not optimism, which expects things to turn out well, but something rooted in the conviction that there is good worth working for. - Seamus Heaney, Irish poet and likely Hoosier basketball fan.
POTFB
Beck is done. Three picks tonight.
That #10 would look good in a Colts uniform for the Canes!
