@thehoosierhuddle I really enjoyed listening to the two of you run down the recuiting class and the possible options remaining in this class.  Thanks

@irregulars thanks for listening. Matt is the best. I try to get him on as much as possible. He is ridiculously busy, but will usually find time for us.

Yeah, that was a good show. I listened last night and again this morning! I agree with Matt, the most interesting position groups is tight end. From what I see, that's one of the cheapest spots to fill in the portal, so the only thing that makes sense to me, is they feel really good about one of the guys from last year (Barker, and/or Thiry)and that by adding Schott, they feel they have 2 position depth for a starter and backup. As pivotal as TE has been for us since Cig arrived, I just don't see any other explanation. With my confidence in the staff, I'm not expecting it to be a let down, even though it is a question mark at this point. Somebody's impressed them a bunch... or it's the biggest whiff this staff has had, and I just don't think that's really a possibility.

@kkott I agree with all that. It's also interesting because it goes against their MO for roster building, which to me means they are pretty confident these guys can play

@thehoosierhuddle Thiry or Schott didn't play in the spring game, correct? Barker looks the part and has the size, but I thought he missed a ball or 2 that he could've caught.

What do you know about Trevor Gibbs? Believe Cig has commented on him, and I thought it was strange that they sent him to Huber's as a freshman. Obviously they couldn't have counted on him for this year, but it does sound like he's been impressing the coaches.

@kkott Thiry and Barker were the only two to play in the spring game.

I really like Gibbs, but he may need some time to develop. He has all the tools though.

Gonna be honest, I don't understand all the head scratching about the TE spot.  This staff gets what they want in the portal.  I believe there is a reason they didn't get an experienced TE to come in.  Cig & staff clearly liked what they saw in practice all season long from the young TEs.

@esalum86 I think all the head scratching (at least from me) is that it is such a diversion from the Production over potential philosophy

@thehoosierhuddle You are right, it is a deviation.   Cig also said, and I will paraphrase, he intends to use the portal less each year and build IU football through high school recruiting.   The portal is for supplementation.

@esalum86 He did, but name one other position in his 2 years where we've not had an experienced guy. I think I heard Barker got in for 1 play last year and Schott played in maybe 2 games for Miami? If it makes any sense at all, it's why I actually don't have more concern. I believe if Cig had any doubts at all, we'd have an experienced TE on the roster, but it does fly in the face of pretty much everything we've seen these first 2 years.
