1: IU wins, but fails to dominate ODU. Surely the gameplan included a spy on their run first QB, so what happened?
2: DeBoer is in trouble.
3: Tayven led his team to victory, Sorsby did not.
Feel free to comment on any of those topics...we got an ugly win just like we did last year in week 1. I expect things will get cleaned up before Illinois.
1. IU is missing Jailin Walker at LB
2. Yes, DeBoer is in trouble
3. One played Nebraska in Arrowhead the other held on to beat Jax State by 7. Neither looked great
8. M. Kamara misses CJWest, James Carpenter and Lanell Carr! He only got 1 tackle yesterday and ODU kept him pedestrian all day.
Less worried about the first long run than the second. The second one the DE responsible for containment crashed down immediately and left the edge wide open. Way too aggressive and no need to be. Other than that, I liked how the defense played.
On offense, thought all three backs ran hard so excited to see the run game develop. Too vanilla in the red zone but expect then to be but would like to have seen better execution in the red zone.
Mendoza, he’ll get better so looking for him to show progress next week. I liked how the first drive after half went. Spreading the ball around more and running well. That drive was what I was expecting to see all game so it’s there, just needs to do it constantly.
Fans. What a disappointment in the crowd. Even beforehand felt like a very low energy but seeing how many left at half again, then after the third another wave was disappointing.

Well put.
I was surprised at how bad the crowd was. I suppose at the end of the day we just have very little football culture at IU and we are who we are. It will take longer to change than I thought.

I’m curious which side of the stadium you were on. The east side in the sun was hot. I sat there and I stayed, but despite low humidity and not an oppressive ambient temperature, it was hot and not comfortable and the game was not very compelling.

yeah, we stay for full games, but it was damn hot in the sun. Breeze really died down during the game and not a cloud in the sky.
I was most disappointed in the students. That section was PACKED early but cleared out early too. And they’ve been pretty good last couple of years about staying.
Cig just didn’t put out a great product yesterday.
It’s really only problematic to me in the sense of if a few more things go wrong yesterday, it could have gotten to a point where a home field crowd could have been very useful for the boys.
I suspect people would have stayed if the opponent was a bigger name or a B1G school. You could feel IU dominating them. They just couldn’t get it in the end zone. We are on the west side and it was quite hot in that sun. I commented to my wife that the east side looked like it was frying. But she told me that we could not leave because Coach would yell at us!
That game was extremely irritating to watch on TV so I can only imagine what it was like in person. I don’t blame the fans for leaving. Notice how Cig didn’t talk about it. He should know why.
I’m on the press box side but have been on the other side for games before so am well aware of what it’s like sitting on that side of the stadium looking into the sun. There were plenty of fans on my side that left so I’m not calling out one side vs the other. People around me were leaving and at the end of the third a wave of people started heading out around us.
It was warm, but our fans are mostly just soft and not too interested in the game. 76* and sunny wasn’t that bad. When it gets to mid-80’s I get it with respect to it being too hot.

Yep - he has zero reason to talk about attendance. I was there and stayed to the end and while it wasn’t abnormally hot, you got cooked in the aluminum bleachers on the East side. I heard multiple fans comment that this was back to typical IU football. Many new season ticket holders. New students. And, then you go out and play uninspired, unprepared football in front of those people, that won’t win over many of your new fans.
So, next two games….everyone can arrive the usual 15 mins before kickoff, park wherever you want, stretch out your legs on the seats in front of you just like the old days because these next two will be half full.
1. A potentially optimistic view is that IU limited ODU to 96 yards passing and had three interceptions. Beyond the two blown plays that let Colton Joseph go for more than 150 of his yards, ODU had around 150 total yards. I trust the coaching staff to get those run assignments cleaned up before we play Illinois.
2. DeBoer has coached 14 games at Alabama and has four losses to unranked teams. That won't be tolerated in most places with expectations, let alone in Tuscaloosa.
3. I'm glad that neither Tayven Jackson nor Sorsby are the starting QBs for IU.
- @big-red-cb-v-2-0 My 20 year old said, after that opening TD, "This is the Hoosiers I know" lol. My recent IU grad daughter said "oof, here we go". Definitely wasn't what I expected, but we didn't exactly look awesome last year's opener either. The goal line ineptitude was mind boggling given our OL. Black missed the opening off tackle on one attempt.
... Black missed the opening off tackle on one attempt.Yeah. After the cutback I thought 'what was wrong with that nice hole?'
