Thank you for reading Hoosier Huddle
I think 10-2, losses to Oregon and PSU.
I don't know who we lose to, we can beat the best. 10-2 also. A couple less expected good wins, one less expected disappointing loss.
I was on 9-3, and not bummed by 8-4. But I will be bummed by 8-4.
Hearing about our QBs and receivers, with depth. We won't get shut down in the big games.
No self-imposed limitations for 2025: 15-0 Natty's

I'd love 10-2 (or better!) but won't be bummed out with 9-3 or even 8-4, depend on how we look in the losses. If we get beat, we get beat. But if we give games away, that's when I'll be disappointed.
Historically, we've always had some good play from our offensive skill players, but have always fallen down with our line play and defense. That's where I'm seeing improvement and am hoping they can get that fixed in the coming years. I noticed in the 2026 HS recruits list, of the five 4-stars we have committed, four are D linemen (one edge) and the other is a LB. That kind of emphasis tells me something.
Good article. I appreciate learning about our opponents.
9-3 and I'll be very happy. But I think we beat both Illini and Iowa. But could easily drop one of those.
Oregon, very tough. We might beat Penn State. Very tough, but they toss in an egg once in awhile.
I’ve been trying to get a read on if this IU team will be better than last year. They did lose some key pieces but pretty much every team did. The transfer haul looks solid. Cignetti has been reserved when talking about this team and given no indication how good he thinks it is. I know some players like Alberto Mendoza have said they think the team is better. Many bluebloods are starting inexperienced QBs. IU doesn’t have that issue.
The national media almost universally thinks IU will have a worse record, but none of them had IU winning anywhere close to 11 games last season.
I will just watch the games and evaluate as they play. What happens, happens.
It is worth noting, as many have, that Cignetti has never had a losing season. Perhaps we just need to trust the coaching staff to put a competitive product on the field every season.
All the shit talking from the haters and media about Indiana losing by double digits to Ohio State and Notre Dame will have a positive effect on this Hoosier team.
They want to shut everyone up.
11-1 and IU will win one of those two big away games.
I'm going to predict 9-3, but I expect 10-2. 11-1 and we're back to the CFP.https://hoosierhuddle.com/2025/08/24/2025-indiana-football-season-prediction/
IU shocks the world at Oregon.
Differences from last year:
- We won't surprise anyone
- We lost a LOT in Price that I don't think will be totally replaced. Sarrat and Cooper are NFL types, but beyond that, it's kind of up in the air.
- Loss of DL. Replacements are good, but will they be as good? Tought to say.
- Loss of a very productive LB (sorry, at my age, my memory of names suck).
- Position change for Kamara. Maybe not a big deal, but will his replacement on the other side get it done?
- Much more mobile QB. Definitely should add something to the offense.
- Injuries? We were very fortunate last year.
A lot of questions to be answered to really predict better than 9-3, imo.

11-1 we get Oregon but slip up at PSU. Maybe get another shot at them in the B1G championship game on a level playing field. I will be there!
@old-crescent I agree the loss of Walker the LB is a big one. I’m buying what the younger Mendoza says that IU is better this year. The big reason is that it is year 2 for Cig and the staff.
We are good enough to beat anyone in the country. That's exciting!
@old-crescent Let me first say Jaylin Walker was awesome last year with just an outstanding nose for the ball. So this may sound crazy but I think Hardy will somehow be even better. He was EVERYWHERE when he was on the field as a true freshman. I just read he had 6 tackles for loss in only 170 snaps last year. He should get 500+ snaps this year. The only downside I see here is we don’t have a Hardy-like back up at linebacker like we did last year. We either need to get really lucky healthwise at LB or we need to really hope someone steps up big time if needed.
@unclemark Cmon Mark! That "giving games away" was the old IU. This is the new, MUCH IMPROVED, Cignetti Era IU! We may very well lose a game or two this year, but I can pretty much guarantee we won't give them away.
