I'm not grasping at anything. I've moved on. Try it.@gros-louis - See, even Cig agrees with me. Keep grasping...
He was led out of bounds. It's not a matter of debate, just fact.
Good receivers, NFL-level receivers, also are aware of getting their feet in bounds, no matter if it would mean taking a face plant in order to do so. Keep your feet in and lean over the boundary to catch it, if you need to. Nick knew it was on him. That's why he threw up his hands to his helmet immediately. Could it have been a better throw? Absolutely. Was it a very catchable throw, for an elite receiver? Absolutely. That's also not a matter of debate, just fact. You see far less catchable balls hauled in every Sunday, and quite a few on Saturdays too.
Not even sure he was "led OOB":

lol That screenshot is hilarious to use as proof. You have no clue what the path is from a side angle screen shot. The video clearly shows where the ball was going.
This is not about it being uncatchable ball. Nick Marsh made a double move on the numbers, which are in line with the N on INDIANA. The throw went to the corner, out of bounds. It's much easier for Hoover to throw the ball to land anywhere in the endzone from the left upright to the sideline, than it is for Nick Marsh to do what you think he clearly should've done. Nick knew he could've made the catch with ease had he known he was thrown out of bounds. He threw his hands up to his helmet because he saw he stepped out of bounds and was in shock and disappointed in the outcome trying to figure out how that could've happened. The circumstance is when you are getting a pass when you are wide open, you don't think the QB is going to make you do a highwire toe tap, which is why he didn't try to. When he was that wide open, his only focus was making sure to make the catch because clearly the QB wouldn't throw him out of bounds......or would he?
Thanks for explaining in detail the inner thoughts and psychological makeup and emotions of Nick Marsh.
We'll never need him to speak on plays now.
@yothn The funny thing is, if you listen to Cig commenting on it, he points to the QB and throw too. He's not throwing either guy under the bus, but both could have made better plays to make it a catch.
@yothn I think all involved made mistakes on the play, but they all also showed their talent in the play, and almost overcame the mistakes. Marsh ran a great route, beat his man like a drum, and made a very good, clean catch. Hoover, seeing that the blocking coverage was blown, did a decent job of adjusting and getting the ball to Marsh in a catchable place. Marsh didn't finish the play well. Hoover didn't set his feet correctly, according to Cig, and maybe that's what caused the ball to drift left...
If this team is wired to where they can clean things like this up, we should have a great chance to win the rest of our games. But I think that's far from a given, at this point. If they don't clean a fair bit of the stuff up, Michigan, USC maybe, Washington maybe, all "loseable" games.
All this debate is fair. But the one thing I know for 1000% certain is #18 soiled himself when Marsh went flying by him.
#18's new nickname is, 'Toast'.
(Saw early Jim Rome ask an NFL db decades ago 'why are the fans calling you Toast?" and without missing a beat the answer was 'I'm the toast of the town!'.
Bottom line, if you let a game come down to one final play, anything can go wrong. It's rather pointless to blame one individual. We had other opportunities that we didn't execute on that would have had us winning by a comfortable margin at that point.
Definitely true. Also true that I'm not sure there's a B1G QB out there that I'd rather have than Hoover. Maybe Maiava? And maybe only 4-5 in the country. Mensah, Chambliss, Carr...after that, I htink you start nitpickingBottom line, if you let a game come down to one final play, anything can go wrong. It's rather pointless to blame one individual.
