@kelly_32 Yea. I’m not sure a player can get better coaching anywhere in the country right now.
I wonder if the recruits saw any potential in our program? 😎
I hope they took notice of the dearth of freshmen (or even sophomores) that played, and understand that it takes time, patience, and hard fvcking work to see the field. It may not be so prevalent in football, but in basketball I get so tired of these kids expecting -- if not demanding -- that they be playing big minutes just for showing up.
Yeah, and all you damn kids can get off my lawn, too.
@the-watson we’ll reach out, but from the couple I’ve talked to. The committed players. They had a blast

Yes.
But also, freshman can play for Cig if he decides theyre good enough. Cig played Landino last year, and hes made a big jump to a significant player as a soph. And was a three star with few major offers during recruiting.
Yes, you can play, probably wont, because there is quality depth here.
What worries me is if we get the five star recruits, how do we afford the roster? Those kids take significant NIL and may not even make an impact for a couple years. Gotta have millions or tens of, just to stockpile the bench. The hope is the coaching and development and atmosphere have top guys sign for multiple years and at a bit of a discount.

If it simply is a bidding war for a kid, my attitude is Fvck Him. I wouldn't be surprised if Cig feels the same way. They will get a fair bag and a fair shot. That should be enough.
Im of the belief that as uncertain as football is, a kid shouldnt pass up a significant difference in pay. Talking big money for the very top guys. What worries me is if we get the five star recruits, how do we afford the roster? I dont like it, but thats the way it is now.
But I also see that Cig will do just fine at moneyball, and likely have enough resources. Gets guys that fit, talented guys, and coaches them up. Probably will get some discounts like you say, those that believe its the best fit.
The key for most schools in the NIL Era is to be efficient in spending. On3 reported that Duke paid their QB $4+ million (inflated number). That’s just not smart. You can get a starting OL for that. Or most of a line.
IU has plenty of NIL revenue streams to tap into. Idk how much they make per sale of GameDay lager or the hard liquor, but that’s such an easy no-brainer way to get cash.
my concern with player ratings is that HS kids seem to be peaking earlier and earlier athleticly. Maybe that’s because of specialization and year round training, but some of these highly rated guys peak at 18-19 and just never take the next step.

We did. If he stays committed. I thought I read that he was at the Ohio St game last weekend. The article made it sound like he was hoping for an offer?https://twitter.com/SethBailey04/status/1969209114162090201
We may have gotten a pretty good one with Ja'Dyn.
He was at their game. I'm sure he wants that offer... they're the defending national Champs that happen to be his home state school.
I see this as our staff is evaluating early enough and getting kids on board that are good enough for big time programs to start sniffing around.
For what it's worth, they just offered a linebacker last Monday, a former Northwestern commit, so some things would need to happen for Ohio State to offer Williams.
Ja'Dyn got offered by Ohio State, according to his Instagram.
We'll see what happens.
@irregulars regarding what? IU's essentially done with 2026. I am still reaching out about 2027 guys. I do not think Brewer comes to IU.

With Williams. Anytime an Ohio State come sniffing around it makes people nervous. That is the general feeling around the program.

What will it take for the top instate players to come to IU? A national title? If what is happening now with the program doesn’t entice them, I don’t know what will.

May have to keep digging into the portal. At the end of the day, a lot of the big time recruits are all about maximizing their money and will be out of our reach. Portal can be costly too but can probably find better deals with players that are plug and play rather than pay and hope.

Go beat Ohio State in the B1G title game. That'll help.
$10M more in our NIL budget.
Also, the staff hasn’t even been here two years and we are four games into their second season. It takes time to land top HS players.

I think it's more that Cigs isn't going to splurge on a few top recruits. He'd rather spread it out and get the most bang for the buck.
