@yothn well, on the other hand sometimes you run those conservative plays early and save the slants for late in the game when you really need a game winning touchdown.
I wouldn't call it too close to the vest. He coached scared and admitted to being Spooked by a pass rush early in the game. That can't happen. If IU is coaching or playing scared Oregon will run them off the field.
Damn. I hope that comment doesn't get back to them. You'll be on Cig's shitlist for sure.
Agree on all accounts. A grinder game like this comes down to under a touchdown win. Kick the field goal. We ran the ball way too much. Did Khobie Martin play.? I didn't get to watch every minute of the game
and the snap count... didn't we have the same problem against Ohio st last year ?
We did. I was thinking the same thing. Rourke was running for his life and they were T-ing off. Isn't there a better way to do that? How do they deal with it in the pros?

Pretty much all NFL teams & major college teams utilize some form of the guard giving the center a hand signal.
I think it’s more IU’s execution & not varying the time to snap (i.e a 1 count vs. 2 count).
Well, the first pass we threw the right guard got beat and got smoked. Four-man rush, sack, third down and two and a half. That kind of spooked everybody, I think. Guys got to trust their technique. We came in at halftime and looked at the stats, we’ve only thrown 8 passes, holy cow, and they’ve thrown 17.—Cig

this was probably 25 years ago, but I remember seeing someone (I think Mark Schlereth) talking about their silent count in Denver. They’d give them a number on the play clock. Like, “snap at 7.” When the play clock hits 7, everyone goes. A true silent count. Now, you have to be sure to have everyone setup when the clock hits the number, but I’ve always wondered why more teams don’t use that.
@tmft speaking as a former OL it is very difficult to see the play clock in your stance with the helmet on, plus you really want to be watching the DL to see their shifts. That would not work.
