Looks like Ole Miss hired their DC as their permanent HC.

Really good coach.  If he gets the funding, I think he could be a problem for the Big 10.

@tammany I’d be so pissed if we hired Kelly and I’m sure MSU fans would feel the same. He is so unlikable and doesn’t really have the resume to overcome his unlikable personality. Fitz or Narduzzi would be my guess. Not sure Narduzzi would leave Pitt for MSU though.

MSU fans are already complaining that theyll get Fitz due to timetable instead of having fired Smith soon enough for a full search. LOL

I dont know, seems about the right time. Not like MSU was getting Kiffin or probably several other top names. They need to identify an up and comer. Or, Fitzgerald. Good coach. They should be happy if they get him.

Auburn, Florida and Arkansas made solid hires. Avoiding drama.

Disagree on Arkansas. Silverfield underachieved at Memphis, he inherited a program that was in strong condition, and a program that had significantly more resources than their opponents. Trent Dilfer & UAB owned him. Arkansas is maybe the weakest SEC program currently and they are definitely bottom barrel resources. I would be surprised to see him succeed doing more with less when he did less with more

Wow.

This is insane!  Holding your current employer and your future staff hostage.  I'm still not sure that LSU has much more resources than OM.  And he still hasn't won anything major.

@auburnhoosier from what I’ve read so far only 4 staff members went with Lane which includes the OC Charlie Weiss Jr. They have retained the rest of the staff and their Dc has been elevated to HC. I’m assuming their QB coach is being elevated to OC as he was mentioned as top priority to retain.

@bradstevens maybe.  But that’s a materially different team now.  FSU got dinged when Jordan Travis got hurt.

The committee is looking for the best teams and, as you've noted, a HC change can make a team fundamentally different from the one that soared in the regular season. Kiffin is one of the best coaches in the business.

The committee absolutely considers coaching changes.  They view a coaching change as a factor that could affect the team's play in the postseason, much like a key player injury would.

From the linked article: "They (the committee) additionally consider the unavailability of players or coaches that either affected the team during the regular season or could impact them in the postseason."

It will be interesting to see if this costs them a home game.
