Wilson was prone to some of the same accuracy issues that have plagued Hoover (high throws for example) and that little swing pass looked awfully close to a lateral/fumble from where we were sitting and I was very relieved to see it called incomplete.
BUT he also showed a clear ability to take the top off and drop a ball in the bucket that Hoover, frankly, has not this year.
I’m not sure I take Wilson over a 100% Hoover, but I think I do take him over a Hoover operating at 80% or worse.
I believe that through 9 games, the evidence is there that the Josh Hoover experiment is all but over. He cannot do enough with his legs. Simple throws are way off target. Cannot deliver a long ball. Cannot see over the line. Doesn’t go through his progressions. Josh has become a big liability to the offense. He works hard, I’m sure. Will do anything for the team but it’s time to sit him and give Wilson the shot. There is no way it could be any more ineffective than what we’ve seen for 4 straight weeks.
If the emoji feature on this site would work even a little bit I'd display a thumbs down. 8-1 and I've seen too many positive results to trash Josh Hoover.
@auburnhoosier More than timely. With the game on the line, he made two great throws - - one in regulation that set up the tying FG, and the other in OT to win it.

@openwheel The only explanation I can think of is that Cig thought Becker was OOB. Still, you'd hope someone on the sidelines would have noticed the clock was ticking.
Edit: Nothing, however, can explain not using TOs when Minnesota was on offense on IU's side of the field.
This is exactly what we thought. From our seats we (incorrectly) assumed he was OOB
The other situation...scratching my head still.
And I agree that Hoover should have been taken out. Either he is hurt or is playing terribly...but either way.

same as far as thinking he was OOB. But the video replay clearly showed knee down in bounds (not that the coaches would be watching that). But I would assume they’d be paying enough attention to the officials or at least when the ref winds the clock.
no harm no foul I guess. But I’m getting too old for this shit every week.
Wilson's legs alone make this a much better offense. Hoover can't even run without tripping himself. I really hope we don't see Hoover again this season.
Hoover has been wildly inconsistent on his throws all year, before any injury issues
Hoover has been bad throwing the ball, yes, but saying he can't run is certainly a position not many would agree with you on.

I'm glad that throw by Wilson to Marsh on the following play was missed. If Marsh catches that ball the game is over with no field goal. Someone has to be paying attention to the clock and letting Cig know.
It would have been fine assuming he would have gone down immediately like he did in real time. Clock would have stopped to reset the chains and it would’ve been an immediate timeout.
The clock management was perplexing. Not sure what to think? The special team gaffs were brutal today. We ended up with the W. Historically not sure how many 8 win seasons we have, but add one more season to the list.

Tino was directly in front of us and very close to where Becker caught the ball and after a slight hesitation, in which I believe he realized they had wound the clock, he was running toward the fifty screaming Call TO but it didn't get called before the next play.
@twenty we don’t know when he was actually hurt. He had a wrist injury before the shoulder. A healthy Hoover is good too. No way Cig keeps a “better” QB on the bench.
@d-b-cooper You have to wonder, if this is true, how much good practice Josh has really had and if his confidence is shaken a bit. Something is certainly wrong with him and I am not sure a week off is going to do much. I know the coaches know best and are making the best decisions for the team, but this sucks being a fan and watching this and not knowing what is going on.
I heard Cig's explanation after the game of why no timeout when Minnesota had the ball trying for the FG late.
I heard it... But it didn't make any sense.
"He's more likely to miss it from 60. If it was closer we might have called timeout" was the reason.
What? You want the time either way. In fact, letting it run down to 20 seconds now gives Minnesota more options. Now going for it to get closer becomes more attractive so they have more options.

I think he was thinking if he called a TO, Fleck might have decided to go for it, converted, and ended up with an easier FG to win as time expired. I think that's where he was going with that. I think he's wrong, though, because I think if he calls the TO, there's no way Fleck goes for it and gives us a short field with a minute to go. I think if he's not 100% on his FG kicker, he punts us deep, setting up the OT.
Cig simply outsmarted himself on that one.
