michigan homecoming in '87 was a big deal

The sort of game as a kid and shuffling down onto the field to celebrate the Win that turns your fandom into granite.

you were there?

i was (as 30 yr old kid)

Yes Sir.   Stadium bought poncho and all.

Love me some Ernie Jones.

Guess it's time to revisit how I tell the story and say I rushed the field for dramatic effect.

But it was definitely a slow shuffle though down the steps from the mid west level.

That was the only game in any sport i ran on the field.  Bo sobbing about the crowd being too loud

I came across an article yesterday where the author stated that this weekend's battle with the Buckeyes will be the biggest and most meaningful home game in the history of IU sports.

Tough to argue with that claim, but I'm wondering if any other game comes close.  What about Michigan at IU basketball, February 1976, in Assembly Hall? IU won in OT, preserved the perfect season, and the two teams met again the following month for the natty.

Any other nominees for biggest (or second biggest)?

From a pre-game standpoint I would agree.   Though several games became more important after they were played.

Bone Bo!

@mushroomgod This is the correct answer then... Didn't know the details.

This year's game is enormous.  But if we win, we're still defending national champs, we beat OSU again, but at home this time... and it puts us in a great position to win the B10, and probably setup a rematch with OSU in a couple months.  If we lose, we're still defending national champs, we're still in a position to make the B10 championship game, and probably will still have a rematch with OSU in a couple months.

The biggest impact this game will have is with the national narrative.  That doesn't really end up mattering much, as we'll get multiple opportunities yet this year to change the narrative again.

With very little to no margin for error. For both the title game and playoffs.

That's the biggest impact this game will have. National narrative matters almost none at all except those close calls for the CFP at the very end..

We need this badly, won't get the same leeway as Ohio State if we end with two losses. Ohio State needs this badly as they don't want to sit with two losses either and maybe go on the road in the playoffs. They may feel for the 'narrative' they need this worse than us. But, it's really all about goals for both teams. Matters!
