Arizona State giving away tickets for home opener

@iugradman you asked this question in a now locked thread and the answer is that ASU, who is ranked 11th, is giving away 4 tickets to every season ticket holder. They have, reportedly, around 7,500 season ticket holders, so that could suggest they have 20K-25K unsold seats for their opener vs NAU.  That's a stadium essentially the same size as ours.

But the question you asked is kind of a crappy one anyway.  Among the 12 playoff teams last year, how many are ALWAYS or ROUTINELY sold out?

Minnesota is now offering $10 tickets to their opener. It'll be interesting to see the data on attendance after the first week.

Thank you for reading Hoosier Huddle

It might be more of a commentary on the state of economy than anything else.  Or at least folks' perception of their personal finances.

The entertainment dollar is one of the first to go if things start getting tight.  Like a leading indicator?

Regardless of why, I'm still bummed by the number of currently unsold seats for the ODU game.

The 7,500 number is new season ticket holders at ASU, not total.  They don’t have 20K+ unsold.

Their seat map makes it look like a lot of tickets are sold… probably more than there actually are if they’re giving away tickets.  Sometimes the seat maps can be deceiving since some inventory can be held back for various reason (season tickets, packages, specials ran for a period of time).

Hopefully IU can move some tickets these next two weeks…

AI searching failed me, you're right about the 7,500 number. I thought that seemed like a really low number of season ticket accounts, but I had no idea what the level of support for Sun DEvil football has been.

I don't think it's an economic thing, I think it's making a choice about seeing a competitive game vs. a non-competitive game.

Hopefully, we'll be S/O for ODU. This current heat wave hasn't help with tix sales.

Hopefully that rain shifts away from game day.  Friday and Sunday are pretty clear... so at least it doesn't seem to be a weather system that is around for long...
