Can't wait to see a matchup between 7-5 Bama and 8-4 LSU in the near future. Whatever.
I would understand 16 with no byes, but 24 is ridiculous. I'm sure we'll see it expand again to 32.
I like getting rid of the conference championships in exchange for a bigger playoff. Conference championships are stupid.
But I would like to see a handful of those bids go to other than just the second-tier B1G and SEC schools. Let's get some variety in there. Make for some compelling first round David-vs.-Goliath possibilities.

I've always advocated for an 8 team playoff, with the four old Traditional bowls -- Rose, Sugar, Cotton, Orange -- hosting the quarterfinals (with old traditional conference tie-ins and/or regional considerations). The 2nd tier bowls survive and the first team out is #9, not #25. That gives them something to play for.
@goat I agree totally. But this would have been much better five years ago. If nil stays I think the gap between David and Goliath is only going to be more pronounced.
So, my question would be that to get the 24 team playoff the B1G said they will require a power 4 game in the OOC and IU has none scheduled. What if there are NO P4 teams with an opening next year? It is pretty short notice to require a change in schedule like that.
@unclemark To give an example from last year, if they expanded to 24, Iowa would have been in, but North Texas would have been first out. I'd rather see North Texas in that first round.

I know I'm an oddball, but I'd prefer an 8 team CFP and then 10-15 bowl games for the rest. The bowls have a purpose.
I'm also the nutjob who thinks the MBB tourney should be 32 teams and the NIT should host another 32 or even 48 or 64. The NIT has a purpose too.
@unclemark I've become an all-or-nothing guy. I prefer the old bowl system. But after the Alliance/Coalition/BCS/Whatever, it's gotta be full, large playoff. One or the other. No half-and-half.
@goat I like playoffs. What I don’t like is the nil uncapped. I’d like to see nil caps and one transfer. That’s it
I guess it does not matter whether I like the idea or not. They are probably going to do it no matter what I think. It will be interesting how this comes out. One thing for sure, we are not done seeing the huge changes in college football.
Certainly the national press is against the expansion. I wonder how it is they feel it will ruin their jobs? They never tell you what they are really thinking of course. But I imagine they think that less importance on the in-season games will give them fewer clicks or something.
As far as I can tell, all it means for INDIANA is that we’ll be in it as long as Cignetti and Staff are here and that we’ll most likely have a Home Field Playoff Game… (and that they’ll find a way to put ND in with even up to 4 loses 🤬)… -The good news there is that we might get to see a running IU vs ND opening round game for many years to come 😉 …
