@hoosierdaddy I get the frustration, but it’s May and it’s HS recruiting. HS recruiting has never really meant less in the history of the sport. Class sizes in general won’t be as big, some kids will wait till the end of the process.
If IU is sitting at single digit commits at the end of July, it’d be a different story
@thehoosierhuddle Do you think Torbert is going to OSU? If that's the case, while I might think IU was a better spot for him, I can understand the draw. OSU has a hold on the state of OH and it's a football state, so most kids grow up dreaming of playing for the Bucks. That's a big draw to overcome. Sucks for us, because he sounded like a great get, but wish him well.
As for Sharpe, do you think that might also be good news on Sales? Guessing they talk and maybe IU told Sharpe they were only looking at 2 freshmen receivers in that class?
@kkott I would guess Torbert heads to OSU as he was last there before decommitting.
As far as Sales, I don’t think it’s a bad thing with Sharpe committing, but it’ll come down to money and not a bond the kids share.

Oh yeah, I'm sure there will be more twists and turns where Sales is involved and I'm sure it will mostly be $$. But, with the recent forecasts for him to IU, I thought maybe there'd been some movement and maybe a handshake type agreement on the money/terms that might have led him to tell (or Sharpe to suspect) Sharpe that he was going to be a Hoosier.
Yes being Ohio State is easy to understand a Buckeye boy wants to be a Buckeye player. Illinois or Kentucky to me feels different for their home state boys. Lived in Ohio decades ago as a late pre-teen and young teen and that attraction to the Shoe is the strongest draw in the state. 60+ years later it still has a bit of pull on me as they are my 2nd favorite team. I've set in the Shoe on 2 occasions and they have some supporters that have despicable behavior. I was damn proud to set in Los during Decembers B1G championship game with my oldest Son and Grandson and witnessed OSU fans treated like human beings even after having to listen to some uppity Bucks setting directly behind us smacking about their immovable DL. That slowed down starting middle of 2nd quarter. I enjoyed looking behind me at them with a big Hoosier grin. Gratifying!!!!
@kkott It's high school recruiting, nothing is set in stone. Even if there is a handshake agreement, things can change in an instant
@thehoosierhuddle yeah, I just thought maybe there was something that triggered the Wiltfong prediction and that might have spilled over to Sharpe deciding he wanted to be at IU and needed to pull the trigger to make that happen. Love seeing the track background. Do you know what event he runs and what his times are? State contender level there too?
@kkott I'll look it up. I love his tape. He also is a very good basktball player and has shown to be a great teammate.
247Sports has that he runs the 100 and does the long jump. He ran an 11.7 in the 100 and jumped 18-7 according to them, but I'll see if I can find out from some track people in the state I know
@thehoosierhuddle 11.7 I'd guess is good, not great. I was a distance runner, but I think under 11 starts raising eyebrows. IN has good HS track, so I checked last year just for comparison and looked at the Indy Regional. Winner was 10.55 and some guy named Monshun Sales was 5th in 10.81.
Since being a Buckeye seems to be the dream of every kid growing up in Ahia, I suggest we stop wasting our time recruiting that state immediately so there's no more frustration over losing commitments!
(sarcasm)
@jsenleo we’ve had some successes recruiting Ohio with this staff last cycle. Just kind of stinks OSU is using us to do their scouting for them, and then throwing bags of money at the guys we want. They are easily the team I view as second worst to Purdont at this point
"We're past Purdue" Coach Cignetti. OSU & Ala.
Let's say a guy jerks Coach Cig around in recruiting and ends up a Big Ten starter in 4 years elsewhere, CB is the worse position for them to play against IU because I would fully expect the offensive gameplan to be to exploit every weakness they have.
Now there is chatter on other message boards that Garyon Hobbs may decommit. If so, that would be three decommitments in this class. Concerning to say the least. Cignetti may just build his roster through the portal at this rate.
