Khobie has a lot speed. Can't teach that. He's a weapon I hope we can use more
@qparker One of the characteristics of Cignetti's teams is he highly values running backs and tight ends that block well.
True, but with Martin's skills you would think he would transfer if he didn't think he had a bright future in the backfield.
Need 3 backs healthy and 4 in the RB room, so it all works out, with Cuono coming back us Martin, Turbo, and Beebe.
@lncolnpk don't get why anyone thinks it's odd that a walk on or reserve would portal. It's probably as simple as they want to play and are looking at going to a lower level to do so.
Bray Lynch is coming back

I am guessing the thought was since they weren't on scholarship, that they could just "walk off" and walk on elsewhere without using a portal.
I don't think they thought walkons were stuck at a school
@hurryinghoosiers - No, even if you change teams you root for.....into the portal. This is a new era.
@kkott Its not just about playing time, the status of walk-ons has been up in the air ever since the NIL lawsuits happened. For football, the roster limit was set at 105 (with no scholarship cap), but it basically ends walk-ons. Here is a pretty good article from a month ago on it:
"In football, for example, there had been a limit of 85 scholarships, but Division I rosters averaged more than 146 players for the 2024-25 academic year, according to data compiled by NIL service provider Opendorse. Now rosters would be capped at 105. Baseball would lose nine spots from its average; women's soccer would lose five.
The players on the outside looking in? Walk-ons. Yes, some of those walk-ons would have the ability to earn scholarships if more were offered, but many of them -- hundreds, if not thousands -- across multiple sports would be casualties of roster math."
Unfortunately its likely quite a few of these guys transferring out are more akin to roster cuts than choosing to transfer out.
@hoosierdaddy I'm just speaking from somewhat personal experience. My girlfriends daughter was on a D1 roster for vball, but felt like she wasn't going to get PT and she wants to play after all her hard work. She was a walkon and went D2 and got aid. A guy who makes a roster at a P5 program can likely get PT and even possibly some aid at a smaller school.
Cooper to NFL per Thamel.

Happy for Cooper even though I selfishly wanted him back. I hope he does very well.
I’m curious. With all the pro basketball players getting eligibility to return to college for basketball I wonder if we will start seeing football players doing the same? Especially if they don’t get drafted would a player return to play out his eligibility under a NIL contract rather than sign as a nfl free agent?
Wishes for Coop to have a long and successful NFL career. He sure gave us Hoosier fans many great and exciting moments to remember!
Good for Coop. A lifelong dream coming true.
