@iugradman It's off to a good start and if they can land Sales...there's your five star
In one of Cig's recent pressers he said this:
Yeah, it's [player dev] huge. Building a program and being successful used to be all about recruiting and development. Now you add retention to the mix, but development is what it's all about because there's a lot of good football players out there. There aren't many great unusual players out there.
I think what he's getting at is there isn't much difference between many of these players -- whether they are a 3* or 4* or sometimes no star. It probably feels like there is more of a difference to outsider fans like us looking at Rivals or 24/7. What a staff does with the players is what ends up mattering most (or a lot).
Now, yes, of course, we do want to upgrade the raw talent that staff gets. Our high school and portal classes rankings are steadily improving.
I also think this staff will create more Fisher's, Ponds', and Kamara's. The system that made that happen has not changed, and now the system is getting better talent to start with than JMU did.
And lastly, we have landed major recruits. We beat out Georgia, Miami, and Mizzou among others for Fernando. That got a little bit of a press (we know why...), but in reality it was a huge commitment.
Looks like Sieg flipped to WVU. Speechless on that, but best of luck to him.
