IU Athletics Release

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana sophomore running back Stevie Scott III landed on the watch list for the 83rd annual Maxwell Award, the Maxwell Football Club announced Monday afternoon. The Maxwell Award, named in honor of Robert W. "Tiny" Maxwell, has been given to America's College Player of the Year since 1937.

One of 80 standouts on the prestigious list, Scott became the 13th Hoosier (19th time) to reach 1,000 yards in a single season and finished 14th overall in program history with 1,137 yards. The Syracuse, N.Y., native set IU true freshman records in yardage, attempts (228), touchdowns (10) and 100-yard games (6).

Week Seven Preview: Rutgers Scarlet Knight

The Indiana Hoosiers will host the Rutgers Scarlet Knights for their annual Homecoming game on October 12th. After hosting the likes of Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska and other top-flight teams for homecoming the Hoosiers caught a break with Rutgers. However, the last time IU hosted the Scarlet Knights for homecoming it was a disaster, as the Hoosiers blew a 52-27 lead as part of a soul-crushing 55-52 loss. Rutgers enters the 2019 season riding an 11-game losing streak and if the worm doesn’t turn early, Chris Ash’s seat will be in flames when this game takes place in Bloomington.

The Hoosiers travel north in week five as they renew the Old Brass Spittoon rivalry with the Michigan State Spartans. The Hoosiers won for the first time in a decade in this series in 2016. However, Michigan State has won the last two, but each contest has been fairly close and this could be turning into an actual rivalry (before an angry mob of Spartan fans chase me down, I mean that playing highly competitive games annually has started to draw more fan interest and attention from the media than it had over the past 15 years). The Spartans are coming off a season where an elite defense carried them to seven wins and a bad offense led to a staff reshuffling. Which Michigan State team shows up in 2019 is anyone’s guess, but the Spartans have the talent to possibly have a say on the East Division race.

Week Four Preview: Connecticut Huskies

The Indiana Hoosiers welcome the Connecticut Huskies to Memorial Stadium in week four for their final non-conference tilt. IU and UConn have played twice before (2002&2006), with the Huskies taking both games. UConn is coming off a 1-11 season and has one of the worst defenses in college football history as they surrendered 50.4 points per game. The offense was better, but only scored 22 points a game while gaining 376 total yards. As poor teams do, UConn turned the ball over, finishing with a minus-17 turnover margin.

The Huskies have made headlines recently with their decision to leave the American Athletic Conference and rejoin the Big East, however the football program has been left homeless. This change will not take effect until 2020.

Offensive coordinator Kalen DeBoer and the coaching staff had their eyes on two quarterbacks that they wanted in the class of 2020. One was Hunter Dekkers, a prospect that committed to Iowa State. The second one was Dexter Williams, a 6’1”, 190-pound dual-threat from Macon, Georgia. Right after Dekkers committed, Indiana was ready to accept the commitment of Williams and the standout from the Peach State was ready to pledge to the Hoosiers.

Three-Star Safety Aamaris Brown Chooses IU over Iowa State, Minnesota and Others

Tom Allen and his Indiana football staff are starting to catch fire again on the recruiting trail as the Hoosiers landed their third prospect in 24 hours and their fifth in the month of June when Armwood High School (Seffner, FL) safety Aamaris Brown chose IU over Iowa State, Minnesota and 19 other schools. Brown is rated a three-star (82.15) prospect by 247Sports UPDATED RANKING.

According to 247Sports John Garcia Jr., who say Brown play in the NFA 7v7 National Championship earlier this month, Brown “made several plays for Team Tampa's defense. A long, physical presence, he worked well in underneath coverage and made a lot of plays on the football. He won with quickness and some pop on contact, even in this setting. He may project as a hybrid defender when it comes to the next level.”

As a junior at Armwood, Brown has a stellar year posting 48 total tackles and 12 passes defensed, including seven interceptions.

Brown made his announcement public on Twitter Monday morning saying

”First, I would like to thank God for blessing me with the ability and opportunity to play the game of football. Also I would like to thank family, friends, coaches and teammates for helping me become the player I am today on and off the field, without you guys none of this would’ve happened. I want to thank all the coaches who have recruited me throughout this process and gave me the opportunity to play at their school, with that being said I am excited to announce that I am 100% committed to Indiana University.”

Brown is IU’s ninth commitment in the 2020 class which currently sits at 59th nationally and 11th in the Big Ten.
