Indiana is heading into just its fourth game of the season but for the second time, they will be lining up against a top five opponent. After losing to then #2 Ohio State in the opener, the Hoosiers took down Virginia in Charlottesville and then trounced Georgia Southern in Bloomington. This week, they travel to Happy Valley to battle the #4 Penn State Nittany Lions and try to deal with one of the best backfields in the country. Thus is life in the Big Ten East and the Hoosiers know they face a massive uphill battle.

Indiana heads back to Big Ten play this week and the grueling reality of the Big Ten East is rearing it’s ugly head once again. The Hoosiers are getting ready to take on the fourth ranked Penn State Nittany Lions. Indiana will need to build off the successes of the last two games and look for ways to slow down the duo of Trace McSorley and Saquon Barkley. When asked about them Tom Allen put it bluntly, “There’s not a quarterback/tailback duo in the country that’s playing any better.” Let’s take a look at the numbers that matter in this week’s Inside the Numbers.

After an unplanned week off due to Hurricane Irma, the Indiana Hoosiers will take the field on Saturday afternoon to battle an unfamiliar opponent, Georgia Southern and their triple option attack. The two foes have never met and the Eagles triple option attack has scared or knocked off many Power 5 programs in the past so the extra week of preparation may end up being a bit of a blessing in disguise for the 1-1 Hoosiers.

Week Four Match-up to Watch: Georgia Southern's Front Seven vs. Right Side of IU's Offensive Line

Week Four Match-up to Watch: Georgia Southern's Front Seven vs. Right Side of IU's Offensive Line

IU took care of business in week two. It was far from pretty in the first fifteen minutes, but eventually the offense put some points on the board and helped out a defense that flexed their muscles for the entire game. My matchup of Crawford and Fields did a solid job of keeping the UVA receivers in front of them for the most part, and it really showed that the Hoos just couldn’t create enough positive yardage consistently to put pressure on IU. After waiting forever for the season to start, it seems like four months have passed between the game in Virginia and now. IU will look to win consecutive games for the first time in the Tom Allen era come Saturday, and the matchup to watch will play a big part in trying to do that.

Let’s take a look at the stats that matter on this week’s Inside the Numbers.
