Third-year Indiana running back Khobie Martin will miss a significant amount of time with an injury, Hoosiers head coach Curt Cignetti said on Monday. Martin was injured in the first quarter after picking up a blitzing linebacker in IU’s 52-16 win over the North Texas Mean Green.
“Khobie Martin will be out a little bit, and expect him back midseason,” Cignetti said.
Martin did not carry the ball in the game. He is coming off of a 2025 season in which he did a lot of damage late in games. He ran for over 500 yards and scored six touchdowns. Martin was slated to see his role increase this season.
The Hoosiers dealt with a situation like this after running back Lee Beebe Jr. was lost for the season in the third game of the season last year, opening the door for Martin. IU will likely use Turbo Richard and Beebe Jr. as they did last season and have either second-year back Sean Cuono or first-year Jayreon Campbell fill the role Martin played last season.
Cuono did get in the game on Saturday and appeared in one game last season. He has two rushes for 17 yards.
Campbell was a three-star prospect out of Powder Spring, Georgia. The 5’8″ 208-pound back rushed for 930 yards on 168 carries with 18 touchdowns as a junior in high school.
