Indiana running back Turbo Richard strives to win in everything he does. At a young age, Richard began to develop this mentality, one that relied on the fight and the outcome. His winning mentality carried him through high school and into college, allowing him to achieve more and revel in possibility. And now, his innate desire to win has brought him to the steps of Bloomington Ind. and to the door of Memorial Stadium. For Richard, his choice to become a Hoosier was anchored in purpose.
“I always feel like I’ve been comfortable with Indiana’s culture, you know, having a winner mentality,” Richard said. “I feel like I’ve always had that mentality since I was younger, from Little League, middle school, high school, and now to college. And when I came in, it felt like the right fit with the culture.”
Richard arrives in Bloomington from Boston College, where he made a significant impact as a younger player. Across his two seasons with the Eagles, Richard appeared in 19 games and accumulated 11 starts. He tallied three career 100-yard rushing games and had four multi-touchdown games.
Richard had 200 career rushing attempts for 1,027 yards, averaging 5.1 yards per attempt. He tallied 11 touchdowns and averaged an impressive 54.1 yards per game. Richard also proved to be a reliable receiver, catching 32 passes for 275 yards, averaging 8.6 yards per catch and two touchdowns.
Richard’s talent is only growing as he acquires more reps, and his desire for more transpired when he chose to join the Hoosiers in January of 2026. Indiana represented a chance at even more carries for the junior running back, along with the opportunity to play in a dynamic run-pass option offense.
“The boys blocking up front and me running the ball really caught my eye,” said Richard. “And how much we run the ball and the RPO system, you know, teams can’t really just play the run fully because they know we have a run-pass offense.”
Now that Richard has begun to integrate into his new Indiana system, he will likely take on one of the starting running back roles, and as he prepares, he turns every practice into a game-time situation. For Richard, every rep offers an opportunity to win, and every rep, no matter what it is, will inevitably prepare him for game day. And with every carry, fall, block, and motivating word, Richard is building winning habits.
“You know, making sure we are on top of everything and being as consistent as we can. Treating every practice rep like a game rep, so when you get to the game, you play with those winning habits that you build in practice,” said Richard.
At Indiana, everything is done with purpose, and that simple fact is what inevitably led Richard to pack his bags and travel to Bloomington.
“I feel like Indiana was the right place for me because I love the way Coach Cignetti coaches, and his standard that every rep is important and how we do anything is how we do everything,” Richard said. “I’m just here to do what I can to contribute to winning.”
Every moment means more for Richard, and he has carried that mentality with him through every stage of life, making him the perfect match for Indiana football.
As a player, Richard is known for his low center of gravity, power, and versatility in the backfield. He gets downfield quickly and easily bounces off defenders. In a room with Khobie Martin and Lee Beebe Jr., Richard seems like the perfect addition and will help this unit flourish under Mike Shanahan’s offense.
“I love Coach Shanahan’s offense. He runs a great offense, putting us in situations that we need to be in to execute our job,” said Richard. “I just feel like I can do everything I can to help them win championships and win games.”
Turbo Richard’s winning mentality began in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he joined teams and hit the bases at Little League practice. It continued when he was given the name “Turbo,” and his identity was set. Through Northwestern High School and Boston College, Richard capitalized on everything in front of him. And six months ago, an opportunity for more arrived in cream and crimson, and Richard ran with it. As fall camp continues, so does Richard’s mentality: one rooted in purpose and, above all, built to win.
