Add Hoosier Huddle to GoogleSporting one of the best names in college football, Turbo Richard arrives in Bloomington as a 4-star rated transfer by 247 Sports and was the 10th best rated running back among available transfers during the 2026 window. As a high school recruit, Richard was rated as a 3-star recruit and was 1,400th overall in his class per 247 Sports Composite rankings. He received offers from Boston College (where he committed) along with several other programs outside of the Power Four. As you can tell, however, Richard raised his stock significantly since then and was ready to make the switch to Power Four play.
One thing I wonder – one of the schools that offered Richard out of high school was James Madison University. Now, we are a couple years removed now from when Coach Cignetti and company were leading JMU, but I do wonder if Richard was on their list back then and if they continued to keep tabs on him as they took their next step at Indiana. Just me speculating – there is nothing concrete or sourced here – but it is interesting to think about!
Nonetheless, as we mentioned above, Richard raised his stock significantly while at Boston College. He plays true to his “Turbo” name, bringing speed from the backfield, as he tallied 749 rushing yards on just 145 carries (5.2 yards/carry) for 9 touchdowns last year for the Eagles. He is also a threat on the catch, bringing in 30 receptions for 213 yards (7.1 yards/reception) for 2 touchdowns. In total, he amassed nearly 1,000 total yards and 11 touchdowns for a Boston College team that finished 2-10 overall. The hope is that putting Richard on a much better squad in Indiana will yield even better numbers for such a dynamic, homerun hitting player. The pathway is there for Richard to excel in Bloomington and, despite a crowded running back room with immense talent, Turbo will get his chance to thrive in 2026.
