Warning Signs of Overlooking Akron Surfaced During Practice This Week

Indiana was supposed to cruise to victory over Akron as 17-point favorites, but the warning signs of trouble surfaced early in the week. No, it was not the whole debacle of the ‘Blackout’ either.
“I was looking for opportunities and did not like at all how we practiced. We actually restarted some things on Thursday. And from what you're just saying right there, I just sense the lack of understanding who we were playing and their ability to beat you” Allen explained when asked if IU overlooked Akron.
It took Indiana four overtimes and a handful of breaks to knock off the Zips. While it is far better to win, this game leaves doubts as to if this program can ever get back on track under the current administration and staff.
The Hoosiers cannot take anyone lightly, they did on this week and nearly paid for it, but the schedule just gets more difficult from here on out and a trip to 4-0 Maryland is coming next week.
“To me, it's a matter of addressing it” Allen said “Making every change we got. Feel like we got to make the -- after four games getting us playing right out of the gate at a high level.”
What those changes are can be from personnel to play calling and everything in between. However, talk has become cheap in Bloomington and if Indiana wants to silence or at least quiet the critics the changes better work.
“Just go through -- we'll go through and evaluate all the times we broke down. You go through, why was it? If was it technique? Was it skill? From the talent of a person being able to make that -- whatever it is we're asking them to do. Is it the call? Is it the position we're putting the guys in?” Allen said.
The Hoosiers’ season could very well be on the line Saturday and it’d be a shame if they overlooked it.
