Dasan McCullough, son of IU associate head coach Deland McCullough, has officially announced today that he is decommitting from Ohio State and is staying in Bloomington to play under head coach Tom Allen. It was announced in a tweet that referenced the Hoosiers landing all three McCulloughs saying “Just Went Triple Platinum”.

Dasan comes to IU to play not only for his dad, but also alongside his two brothers, Deland McCullough II, and Deah McCullough.

This is a big pick up for the IU defense because Dasan can play safety, cornerback, and can rush from the edge.

According to 247sports.com writer Gabe Brooks, Dasan will play mostly an edge rush position in college due to his lean build and length.

Brooks wrote this scouting report on McCullough:

Exceptional height with plus length. Lean build with tons of space to add mass. Experience at numerous positions, including receiver, edge, off-ball linebacker, cornerback, and safety. Started out looking like a big safety but high frame potential likely leads to long-term defensive edge projection. Varied positional experience aids in ball skills and impact playmaking ability. Disruptive at the catch point thanks to length and awareness. Redirects fairly well relative to long-levered build. Good downhill juice vs. the run and strong enough to provide the big hit as a tackler. Not afraid to attack gaps and play in the box from safety. Has flashed some traffic-shedding ability vs. the run against high school competition but will need to add bulk and strengthen to consistently do that in college. If playing from the edge, that strength will particularly be needed, as well as developing a pass-rush move set. Concerns exist over position projection, but that may be reading into it too much. Given physical tools and multi-positional experience, potential should be quite high. Unique athlete with strong on-field profile. Projects to the high-major level with a ceiling in the top half of the NFL Draft.

While 247 Sports National Recruiter Allen Trieu wrote:

Tall, long prospect who looks the part in person. Has played as a deep safety, cornerback and over the slot but body type allows him to project a lot of ways as he continues to grow and physically mature. Has very good fluidity and change of direction for such a long player. Has good cover skills and uses his length to attack the ball in the area. Willing tackler who comes up in run support and is very reliable in that area as far as taking good angles and attacking ball carriers without getting too high. Main area of concentration moving forward will be seeing where he lands positionally and being used to taking on blocks if he continues to play more in the box based on his size.

McCullough put out a statement on Twitter explaining why he chose to flip to Indiana from Ohio State.

First off, I would like to thank Ohio State for the amazing opportunity they gave me. Being a kid from Ohio it was a true blessing. Special thank you to Coach Washington for believing in my abilities as a player. With that being said I have de-committed from Ohio State University.

Indiana. I’m staying home. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity I refuse to pass up. The chance to play under the man I looked up to my whole life is truly amazing, along with the opportunity to play with my best friends, Daeh, who has the chance to be special and I get the opportunity to watch and play with. And my oldest brother Deland, simply the reason I wear 1 on my jersey and continue to play the game. Indiana University…I’m here. #LEO

McCullough committing to IU over Ohio State is not only big for the program, it also takes away a top recruit from one of our biggest rivals in the Big Ten. He is the second member of Indiana’s 2022 class which shoots up more than 20 spots into the top 50.
