The Indiana Hoosiers added a walk-on lineman to their 2020 class on Wednesday afternoon in Andy Buttrell, a 6’5.5” 298-pound three-star prospect (247Sports) out of Liberty Christian in Argyle, Texas. Buttrell was originally committed to Fordham University of the FCS level and had three total FBS offers from Air Force, Nevada and Southern Mississippi. Buttrell will also walk-on to the Indiana track team as a thrower.

Tom Allen’s ‘LEO’ culture had a big impact on Buttrell’s decision. “The phrase LEO. This saying shows they care ab winning and more importantly care about growing their athletes into successful young men. When a team has brotherly love for each other they can’t be stopped.” Buttrell told Hoosier Huddle in an interview.

Buttrell also told Hoosier Huddle that even though “Fordham is fantastic and is one of the original football schools that (Vince) Lombardi coached and played at however during this time Bloomington and the school of Indiana is a better fit for me and my family.”

Being a two-sport college athlete is rare in this day and age, but Buttrell is used to the workload as he lettered in basketball, football and track at Liberty Christian High School. Buttrell said he will “balance both by working hard and not getting distracted putting my eyes on the prize and not looking towards anything else.”

For an offensive lineman throwing around heavy objects is a must-need skill and Buttrell has that. “Being a lineman and throwing heavy objects with an extreme amount of power translates from one event to another tremendously,” Buttrell said, “I will throw shot put hammer and weight throw.”

Buttrell lets his tape speak for itself and that tape shows a tackle who can move to the next level and bury defenders into the ground.
