2018 3-star Blacksburg (Sc.) defensive back Elijah Rodgers has picked up an offer from Indiana. The 6-1, 168 pound prospect recently caught up with Hoosier Huddle to discuss the offer, and to say the least he is very proud of the offer.
“This offer means a lot to me.” Rodgers said. “It's a chance to play the game I love at an extremely high level. The Big Ten is a great conference. Indiana is a great university as well as a great place to play football. At the end of the day, I have to be a student before an athlete and Indiana is a great place to do that because of their academics.”
Rodgers, the second-highest ranked cornerback in South Carolina by 247Sports, holds five offers at the moment. His offers consist of Indiana, BYU, Purdue, Bryant and East Carolina. Rodgers told Hoosier Huddle that the three schools that stick out are Indiana, BYU and Purdue.
“I don't have any leaders as of now, but Indiana definitely is a school that sticks out to me. They are known for their beautiful campus, academics are good and it's a great place to play football. Right now, they will be an official visit. I have a great relationship with Coach (Brandon) Shelby and (Scott) Gaspar. Coach Shelby offered me and we talk a good amount. Thing about us is that we keep things straight. That's huge for me and honestly that's I could ask for.”
Rodgers, who calls himself a physical and long cornerback, feels he would be a good fit in Indiana’s system and Coach Shelby agrees. One thing Rodgers likes in a school is a chance to play early, and he sees that at Indiana.
“I'm a physical, good tackling cornerback. I'm not the #1 cornerback in the country, but I play like I am. I play tough, physical and I give 110% every time I'm out on the field. I'm always finding ways to improve my game and that's something Coach Shelby likes about me. They told me I could see early playing time with my size and physicality so that's a huge plus.”
While Rodgers has no decision date in mind, he said he will have one soon. Indiana is currently a school that caught his eye right after the offer. While he doesn't know a whole lot about Indiana, he said he plans on taking an official visit to learn more and will watch them closely from here on out.
