Despite today’s reports of the Big Ten cancelling college football, the Hoosier Huddle Countdown continues on until it is made official that there will be no kickoff. With 25 days to kickoff, we begin featuring the Hoosiers’ wide receiving corps— the first being Cam Wilson.

Name – Cam Wilson

Position – Wide Receiver

Year/Hometown – Redshirt Junior/Columbus Indiana (Columbus East)

Height – 6’1”

Weight – 198 pounds

If you follow Indiana high school football, you’ve heard Cam Wilson’s name. The Columbus East High School standout wrapped up a four-year football career with 72 receptions, 2,150 receiving yards, 900 kick return yards and 27 touchdowns. Wilson led Columbus East to three conference titles, semi-state twice and led the Olympians as team captain to state where they ended runner-up in 2016. He was a 2016 Indiana Football Coach Association All-Star, and a dedicated track and field athlete who was just as dedicated to the academics as he was athletics.

Cam Wilson started his college football career at Illinois State University in 2017, where redshirted his first year. It did not take long for Wilson to come back home, as he joined the IU football program as a walk-on in 2018. NCAA transfer rules prevented him from contributing on the field, but his work off the field earned him special teams scout player of the week for the Maryland game.

As a sophomore, Wilson made his college debut at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indiana’s 34-24 victory over Ball State. He made an appearance in both Eastern Illinois and Rutgers matchups as well. His off-the-field impact earned him offensive scout team player of the week honors for IU’s historic 38-31 win over Nebraska and special teams scout player of the week against Northwestern.

Since the devastation of tragically losing both parents this past May, Wilson believes “the worst conditions make a champion.” I expect to see this mindset impact his performance on and off the field in 2020.
