Spring Practice Day Five Notables
March 21st, 2019
The Hoosiers got back to work after more than a week away from the field for spring practice number five. Once again the Hoosiers were inside the Mellencamp Pavilion. It may be officially spring, but the weather has not gotten the memo just yet. While we were not on the ground in Bloomington, Tom Allen spoke to IUHoosiers.com to discuss practice.
Tom Allen’s Observations
· The Hoosiers were in shoulder pads
· “For coming off of break (practice was very crisp and sharp offensively did a lot of really good things in both the run game and the pass game. Defensively, had a lot of install today, but I thought the young guys flew around, had a lot of good energy.”---Tom Allen
· “Thought the offensive line protected well in third down situations, but then there were a few times we were able to get the pressure we wanted.”---Allen
· Allen said that Harry Crider, Michael Katic, Matthew Bedford, James Head and Michael Ziemba have stood out to him.
Coach Allen Quotes
· On what he likes from the offensive line adapting to a new offensive coordinator: “I thought today we showed a lot of physicality, you know up front, that we have to have. We have three guys back that have played a lot of football here and got some new guys we’re working in as well but the biggest thing right now it’s about technique and toughness on the offensive lines what our emphasis is going to be and getting a lot of guys prepared.”
· On what he likes from the defensive side of the ball: “Similar, but the biggest thing is, you know, we got more newer guys that haven’t played as (many) snaps on that side, but it seems like we have more guys that are going to contribute.”
· On what he wants to see accomplished this spring: “We have our three goals and those don’t change. To me it’s about can you just keep doing it over and over again. You come back from break and now our next practice is Saturday and half that will be scrimmage work with officials.”
