BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana true freshman running back Stevie Scott claimed Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors, the Big Ten announced today. He shared the accolade with Ohio State's Tate Martell.
Scott rushed for 204 yards on 31 carries (6.6 average) with his first career touchdown, a 40-yarder, in the Hoosiers home-opening 20-16 victory over Virginia last Saturday. His 204 yards are the second-most for an IU true freshman back, three shy of Anthony Thompson's mark set vs. Wisconsin on Nov. 1, 1986.
The Syracuse, N.Y., native became the first Indiana back to topple 200 yards since Devine Redding (227) in the 2015 Pinstripe Bowl, and his 31 rushes are the most for a Hoosier true freshman since BenJarvus Green-Ellis (35 on Nov. 22, 2003).
Scott, who lost just one yard on his 31 attempts, is the 15th IU player to reach 200 yards and the 12th true freshman to surpass 100 yards.
Indiana (2-0) returns to action and closes out its non-conference slate on Saturday when it welcomes Ball State (1-1) to Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is set for noon EDT and BTN will televise the contest.
