Offensive Tackle Austin Barrett Commits to Indiana

The Hoosiers gained a major commitment on Friday night by picking up three-star tackle Austin Barrett out of St. Charles, Illinois. Barrett is ranked the 14th best player in Illinois. He chose IU over offers from Kansas State, Virginia Tech and West Virginia among others. Barrett is listed six-foot-seven and 270 pounds.

Barrett told Hoosier Huddle he chose Indiana because “the coaches there are top notch and they care about every single one of their players'.”

He was recruited to IU by offensive line coach Darren Hiller, offensive coordinator Walt Bell and assistant Danny Friend.

Barrett will have to develop into a Big Ten player, but he says IU’s strength staff was impressive.

“The strength staff is I think the best in the world by far and they want to develop me to play ASAP.” Barrett said.

The biggest lesson in life was taught to Barrett by his brother. “My brother has taught me it takes sacrifice and a lot of hard work but it pays dividends in the end and he has always had my back and believed in me” he said.

As Barrett gets ready for his senior season, he is already looking forward to earning a spot with the Hoosiers. He has a big frame and loves to get physical in the trenches. He moves well too. Fans can watch his HUDL Film here.
