During his weekly radio show Indiana Hoosiers head coach Kevin Wilson announced that redshirt freshman Laray Smith will be transitioning from running back to cornerback. Many thought the Hoosiers would find a place for Smith, a four-time All-American in track in high school, in the offense. Wilson has other ideas. “He’s learning how to play corner. He’s a little bit of a fish out of water there, but we think we’ve found a niche for him” Wilson said. The coach did go on to say that Smith would be used on special teams.

The move is a little puzzling as Smith’s speed could be a major weapon on offense, but he was buried on the depth chart behind Tevin Coleman, D’Angelo Roberts, and Myles Graham. The transition to defense has a lot of potential as Wilson added that, “we think he’ll be an excellent corner prospect in years to come.”
