IU Athletics Release

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana fifth-year senior Logan Justus is on the 30-player Watch List for the 2019 Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award, the Palm Beach County Sports Commission announced on Wednesday afternoon.

One of 20 Groza semifinalists in 2018, Justus finished the campaign 15-of-18 on field goals (83.3 percent) and 32-of-33 on extra points. His 15 makes share eighth in school history.

The left-footer garnered second-team All-Big Ten honors, ranked second in the conference in percentage (T-19th nationally) and was named IU's Most Outstanding Specialist of the Year.

In league games only, Justus was 13-of-15 (86.7) on three-pointers and 20-of-20 on PATs. The McCordsville, Ind., native was second in percentage, shared the second spot in field goals and was seventh among kickers in scoring (6.6 ppg).

Accomplishments are tabulated throughout the season and the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award will announce its 20 semifinalists on Thursday, Nov. 7. From this list, a panel of more than 100 FBS head coaches, SIDs, media members, former Groza finalists, and current NFL kickers selects the top-three finalists for the award, announced on Tuesday, Nov. 26. That same group then selects the national winner, who will be announced on Thursday, Dec. 12, during the Home Depot College Football Awards Show on ESPN.

The 28th Annual Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award, presented by the Orange Bowl Committee, recognizes the three finalists during a celebration in Palm Beach County, culminating with a gala awards banquet at West Palm Beach's Kravis Center for the Performing Arts on Dec. 9.

The Award is named for National Football League Hall of Fame kicker Lou "The Toe" Groza, who played 21 seasons with the Cleveland Browns. Groza won four NFL championships with Cleveland and was named NFL Player of the Year in 1954. Although an All-Pro offensive lineman as well, Groza ushered in the notion that there should be a place on an NFL roster for a kicker.
