Indiana University’s new coaching staff is working hard on multiple fronts: portal recruiting, attempting to bring back coveted players like Carter Smith and Donaven McCulley and high school recruiting. Shortly after landing transfer quarterback Kurtis Rourke, the Hoosiers secured the commitment of three-star defensive prospect William Depaepe.
Depaepe is expected to play edge rusher for Pat Kuntz’s defensive line. The Moline (IL) native originally committed to Georgia Tech over offers from several Group of Five schools and Boston College but he recently reopened his recruitment and visited Bloomington. Depaepe was impressed by Curt Cignetti’s pitch and announced his commitment to the IU program on Friday afternoon. The 3-star recruit is ranked as the 27th best prospect from Illinois and the 66th best Edge defender nationwide in this class. His most intriguing attribute is clearly his size. Depaepe measures at 6’6” and has long arms that should be a weapon to utilize against offensive tackles as a pass rusher. He is currently only 225 pounds and will need to add significant weight to his frame before he can contribute.
Indiana now has 18 total commitments (16 high school and 2 transfers) in the 2024 class as they head into a very busy official visit weekend before the signing period begins.
