Hoosier Nation waited through a painful four-hour College Football Playoff Selection show on ESPN on Sunday to find out their football program will head to the Foster Farms Bowl in Santa Clara, Ca. on Dec. 28th to face off against the 19th ranked Utah Utes (8-4, 5-4). The game kicks off at 8:30 pm ET and will be televised by Fox. This is Indiana's (6-6,4-5) fourth ever meeting with Utah with the Utes leading the series 2-1. The Hoosiers are also 7-15 all-time against Pac-12 schools. This will be Indiana's first time playing in the Foster Farms Bowl and their first bowl game in the state of California since the 1979 Holiday Bowl and their 11th bowl overall. The Hoosiers are 3-7 in bowl games.
Indiana athletic director Fred Glass talked about the opportunity to play in the Foster Farms Bowl in a release sent out by the university Sunday evening.
“Our team is thrilled to play in the Foster Farms Bowl,” IU Vice President and Director of Athletics Fred Glass said. “Making a second straight bowl game is an enormous milestone for the program and our students will enjoy going against a high caliber opponent in the Utah Utes. We can’t wait to bring Hoosier Nation to the Bay Area on December 28th to compete in one of the most beautiful areas of the country. Coach Allen just told the team and they are excited for the opportunity to become Foster Farms Bowl Champions.”
New Indiana Head Coach Tom Allen also expressed his feelings in the release, "“We’re excited to be able to go to the Foster Farms Bowl in California to play the Utah Utes, it’s a great opportunity for us to match up against another great conference in this country in the Pac-12 and play one of their better teams. The Hoosiers are fired up to be heading west.”
