IU Athletics Release

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana fifth-year senior offensive lineman Dan Feeney collected All-America honors for the second straight season, as the Walter Camp Foundation named him to its second team this evening. Feeney is the first offensive lineman and the sixth player in program history to earn All-America status twice: Anthony Thompson (1988-89), Van Waiters (1986-87), John Isenbarger (1967-68), George Taliaferro (1945, 47-48), Pete Pihos (1943, 45) and Bill Hillenbrand (1941-42).

In 2015, Feeney carded first team accolades from ESPN and additional recognition from the Associated Press, CBS Sports and SI.com.

Coupled with junior linebacker Tegray Scales and his second team SI.com All-America nod this afternoon, this marks the third straight year (5 honorees) at least one Hoosier has made his way on to an All-America team: 2015 – Feeney (1st team) and current Green Bay Packers offensive lineman Jason Spriggs (1st team); 2014 – current Atlanta Falcons running back Tevin Coleman (unanimous and consensus selection).

The Orland Park, Ill., native received first team All-Big Ten following the 2016 campaign. Feeney became the fourth offensive lineman in program history to earn back-to-back first team honors: Don Shrader (1987-88), Bob Haak (1937-38) and Homer Dutter (1909-10). The last Hoosier to do so was wide receiver Tandon Doss (2009-10).

An Outland Trophy and Rotary Lombardi Award Watch Lister for the second straight year, Feeney was a consensus preseason first team All-American. He accepted an invitation to play in the 2016 Senior Bowl.

He started the final four weeks of the regular season at right tackle after 41 starts at right guard. In his 45 career games, Feeney has allowed just two sacks (3,278 snaps).

During the offseason, Feeney was recognized as the 37th-best player in country by ESPN, the 10th-best senior by NFL.com and the top guard in the country by Phil Steele, Lindy’s, USA Today and 247Sports. He has 51 knockdowns and one sack allowed in 270 called pass attempts and 559 snaps in 30 quarters this season.

This is the 127th edition of the Walter Camp All-America team – the nation’s oldest All-America team.
