Indiana Football Record-Tying Five Hoosiers Will Be Headed to the NFL Combine

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana wide receiver Simmie Cobbs Jr., linebacker Chris Covington, cornerback Rashard Fant, linebacker Tegray Scales and tight end Ian Thomas will participate in the 2018 NFL Scouting Combine at Lucas Oil Stadium from Tuesday-Monday, Feb. 27-March 5.
The five participants are tied for the most in program history (1992, 1994) and tied for the fourth-most in the Big Ten.
A 2017 consensus first team All-Big Ten selection, Cobbs shares fourth with seven 100-yard games, is eighth with 139 receptions and ninth with 1,990 receiving yards on the Hoosiers career lists. Cobbs finished second in the conference in catches (72, 29th nationally), fourth in yardage (841), tied for sixth in receiving touchdowns (8, T-42nd) and shared 11th in total TDs (9) last season.
Covington finished 2017 with 85 tackles (3rd on the team, T-17th in the Big Ten), 50 solo (3rd, 16th), 12 for loss (2nd, T-13th), three sacks (22 yards), one fumble recovery, five pass breakups (T-3rd) and five quarterback hurries (2nd). He led the team in stops twice and recorded seven-plus on six occasions. Covington started 13 times at linebacker and played in 38 overall games at linebacker (33) and quarterback (5).
A two-time second team All-Big Ten selection, Fant is IU's all-time leader with 58 passes defended and 53 pass breakups. He appeared in 49 career games (36 starts) and made 132 tackles, 119 solo, five for loss (37 yards), five interceptions (68 yards), one pick-6 and three fumble recoveries.
Scales became the first Indiana linebacker to earn All-America honors (2016) since 1987 and the first to collect first team All-Big Ten recognition (2017) since 1988. The Cincinnati native finished third on the Hoosiers charts with 46 career tackles for loss (152 yards), sixth with 18 career sacks (104 yards) and 10th with 325 stops. Scales wrapped up his career with 13 double-digit tackle games, four multi-sack games and 14 multi-TFL games.
Thomas finished second among Big Ten tight ends with 15.0 yards per reception (4th nationally, 11th overall in the Big Ten), tied for third with five receiving touchdowns (T-12th nationally), and was fourth in receiving yardage (37.6) and catches per game (2.5). The Baltimore native's TDs rank second and yardage seventh on IU's single-season tight ends lists.
