Hoosiers in the NFL: Week 11

Between bye weeks and injuries, only four former Hoosiers were active this NFL Sunday. Ian Thomas, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, Wes Martin, and Ian Thomas all saw game action this week. The rest of the IU crew is trying to get healthy as we approach the final stretch of this NFL season. No touchdowns were scored by former Indiana football players this week, but all four active Hoosiers were victorious. Let’s take a look around the league.

Rodger Saffold, LG, Tennessee Titans (7-3)

Rodger Saffold was inactive with an ankle injury, but the Tennessee Titans go the win in overtime, defeating Baltimore 30-24. The Titans are tied with the Colts for the division lead. Saffold hopes he can return to the gridiron next week. This Sunday marked the first game Saffold has missed since 2017.

Jordan Howard, RB, Philadelphia Eagles (3-6-1)

After being released by the Miami Dolphins last week, Jordan Howard has returned to the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles officially signed Howard to their practice squad on Monday.

Tevin Coleman, RB, San Francisco 49ers (4-6)

Tevin Coleman and the 49ers were off with a bye week. Coleman is nursing a sprained knee and hope the week off will expedite his return to the field.

Nate Sudfeld, QB, Philadelphia Eagles (3-6-1)

Nate Sudfeld was inactive for the Eagles loss to the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. Sudfeld is currently Philly’s third string quarterback behind Carson Wentz and rookie Jalen Hurts.

Dan Feeney, LG, Los Angeles Chargers (3-7)

Dan Feeney and the Chargers finally found themselves in the win column Sunday as LA defeated the Jets 34-28. Feeney got the start at left guard as usual and helped pave the way for 376 yards of total offense.

Ian Thomas, TE, Carolina Panthers (4-7)

Ian Thomas did not record a statistic on Sunday as the Carolina Panthers shutout the Detroit Lions 20-0. The young tight end has 12 receptions for 93 yards and a touchdown so far this season.

Wes Martin, OL, Washington Football Team (3-7)

Wes Martin saw a handful of snaps on Sunday as the Washington Football Team defeated the Cincinnati Bengals. After heavy playing time early on in the season, Martin is trying to work his way back into the offensive line rotation.

Brandon Knight, OL, Dallas Cowboys (3-7)

Brandon Knight continues to recover from a knee scope as the Dallas Cowboys were off this Sunday with a bye week. Knight hopes to return to the field before the end of the season.

Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, WR, Tennessee Titans (7-3)

Nick Westbrook-Ikhine caught one pass on a fake-punt Sunday, helping his Tennessee Titans defeat the Baltimore Ravens. Westbrook-Ikhine has been seeing action on special teams and a handful of offensive plays. The young wide receiver hopes to solidify his presence as a wide receiver in this league. So far, Westbrook-Ikhine has two receptions for 14 yards on the season to go with another clutch catch on a two-point conversion.

Jason Spriggs, OT, Chicago Bears (5-5)

Jason Spriggs was activated off of the Covid-19/IR list two weeks ago and had another week to get back into the swing of things as the Bears were off with a bye.
Simon Stepaniak, OL, Green Bay Packers (7-3)

Simon Stepaniak was inactive for the Packers overtime loss to the Colts. The rookie offensive lineman continues to acclimate to the NFL in a backup role.

Tegray Scales, LB, Pittsburgh Steelers (9-0)

The Pittsburgh Steelers signed Tegray Scales to their practice squad two weeks ago. The former IU linebacker hopes to get a crack at making an NFL roster as we approach the final third of the season.

Total Hoosier Touchdowns: 5 (Jordan Howard 4, Ian Thomas 1)
