How Former Hoosiers Fared in Week 10 of the 2020 NFL Season
/Written by Evan McShane
Just five Hoosiers were active this week as the mid-November injury bug has struck many rosters across the NFL. Both of Indiana’s former running backs, Jordan Howard and Tevin Coleman, were inactive Sunday in addition to several others. Let’s take a look around the league and check in on those former Hoosiers.
Rodger Saffold, LG, Tennessee Titans (6-3)
Rodger Saffold and the Tennessee Titans stumbled in their Thursday night home game against the Indianapolis Colts. Saffold and the O-line paved the way for 157 rushing yards, including 103 from Derrick Henry, but it ultimately wasn’t enough to overcome the Colts’ 34 points. Tennessee and Indianapolis are now tied for the AFC South Division lead.
Jordan Howard, RB, Miami Dolphins/Free Agent (6-3)
One week after scoring his fourth touchdown of the 2020 season, Jordan Howard was inactive for the Dolphins win over the LA Chargers to advance to 6-3. Howard has appeared in five of Miami’s nine games, accumulating 33 rushing yards on 28 attempts and four touchdowns. On Monday, it was revealed that the Dolphins released the former Hoosier running back. Jordan Howard will now be a free agent on waivers until he is claimed by another team.
Tevin Coleman, RB, San Francisco 49ers (4-6)
Tevin Coleman has been in and out of the lineup this season with a sprained knee. Coleman played in the first two games of the year and made an appearance in week eight but has been inactive for the rest, most recently for the 49ers’ loss to the Saints. Coleman has 21 carries for 50 yards on the season to go with three receptions for 34 yards.
Nate Sudfeld, QB, Philadelphia Eagles (3-5-1)
Quarterback Nate Sudfeld was inactive once again on Sunday for the Eagles loss against the New York Giants.
Dan Feeney, LG, Los Angeles Chargers (2-7)
Dan Feeney has been solid, and rookie QB Justin Herbert has impressed, but the LA Chargers are experiencing some growing pains this season. All seven of LA’s losses have come by one score or less – an average margin of less than five points. Sunday was no exception as the Chargers fell to the Dolphins in Miami 29-21. By all accounts Feeney continues to play well individually here in his fourth NFL season, as he has since entering the league. Dating back to the latter half of his rookie season in 2017, Feeney has started in 50 straight games.
Ian Thomas, TE, Carolina Panthers (3-7)
Tight end Ian Thomas caught one pass for seven yards in Carolina’s loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Thomas has 12 catches for 93 yards and a touchdown so far this season. The former Hoosier is on pace to exceed his production from last year, and at just 24 years old, the future remains bright for Thomas.
Wes Martin, OL, Washington Football Team (2-7)
Wes Martin was active in a backup role for the Washington Football Team’s last-second loss to the Detroit Lions. The second-year offensive lineman hopes to work his way back into the starting lineup.
Brandon Knight, OL, Dallas Cowboys (2-7)
Brandon Knight continues to recover from a knee scope as the Dallas Cowboys were off this Sunday with a bye week. Knight hopes to return to the field before the end of the season.
Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, WR, Tennessee Titans (6-3)
Nick Westbrook-Ikhine saw some playing time on special teams during the Titans loss at home to the Colts on Thursday Night Football. Westbrook-Ikhine also played a handful of snaps at wide receiver but did not record a statistic.
Jason Spriggs, OT, Chicago Bears (5-4)
Jason Spriggs was activated off the Covid/IR list last week and thrust into the starting right tackle positions for the Bears disappointing loss to the Vikings on Monday Night Football. Spriggs saw some playing time in the loss after a few weeks of inactivity as Chicago’s offense searches for answers.
Simon Stepaniak, OL, Green Bay Packers (7-2)
Simon Stepaniak was inactive for Green Bay’s victory over Jacksonville on Sunday. The rookie offensive lineman will continue to develop on the practice field in 2020.
Tegray Scales, LB, Pittsburgh Steelers (9-0)
The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed Tegray Scales to their practice squad. The former Hoosier linebacker will have a chance to crack the roster.
Total Hoosier Touchdowns: 5 (Jordan Howard 4, Ian Thomas 1)
