The Indiana Hoosiers and Tom Allen have a couple roster spots to fill as offensive lineman Britt Beery and tight end Turon Ivy Jr. recently hit the NCAA Transfer Portal. In his news conference on Wednesday, Indiana head coach Tom Allen said the portal “will be definitely something that we're going to be aggressively looking at.”
There are several positions Allen and his staff will be looking to add to if possible including safety, defensive line and even the quarterback position.
“I do think there's a need for some more depth to safety.” Allen said. “That is definitely something that I would consider. Defensive line as well as looking for guys there too. Maybe you're looking for guys who can give you something more than what you have in terms of skill set wise in certain spots. They're always looking for best available guy on offense, that gives you a chance to increase your depth on the offensive line, even you know, whoever that might be not not saying for sure we're going in that direction. But obviously you know with Dexter's (Williams) injury quarterback, that area that puts a little bit of a concern for that spot, a lot more pressure on you know our guys coming in to be able to step up, Be ready and get get Michael (Penix) back 100% healthy like is the expectation.”
There looks to be plenty of options to pull from in the NCAA Transfer Portal this summer and IU can’t take everyone, but Tom Allen and staff will have a plan to recruit some transfers.
“(We) don't have a ton of spots, just a few to look into and to consider, but I think that that's always looking for those options to be able to improve your football team and with the transfer portal as something that's not been a component in the past but it is now part of the dynamic of college recruiting.” Allen explained. “And so, yeah, looking at all those options and see what what guys are in there and who's who's the fit with us, that's really the key, you know, and that doesn't change it's guys that fit with us, that can help us become a better football team.”
The Hoosiers have plenty of time to add players during the summer before they open the season on September 4th at Iowa.
