That's two days in a row that Tom Allen's staff has secured a commitment. Yesterday was offensive lineman Nick Marozas. Today the Hoosiers addressed the defensive side of the ball with a commitment from DB/LB Aaron Casey.
Casey is a 247 Sports Composite three-star player and is ranked as the 683rd best player in the country. At 6-foot-1 and 209 pounds, Casey is listed as a safety/linebacker hybrid or in Tom Allen's defense, a Husky, but Casey told HoosierHuddle.com that the staff will place him at linebacker. Casey held offers from 21 schools including Indiana, Iowa State, Rutgers and West Virginia. He unofficially visited IU on June 3rd. He is IU's sixth commit of the 2018 class and boosts their class ranking up to 67th nationally and 12th in the Big Ten according to 247 Sports.
Casey has great size and athleticism to play the outside linebacker position. He can play in the box or in coverage. He is a big hitter and has the frame to add another 10-15 pounds of muscle to be able to hand out punishing hits in the Big Ten. As a junior Casey made 84 total tackles, picked off three passes, broke up two passes and added a tackle for loss.
Casey made his announcement on Twitter saying, "first of all I would like to thank God for the opportunities that he has given me. I would like to thank my parents, my older brother for always pushing me to be better and the rest of my family for supporting me through this process. I would also like to thank my team and coaches at Alexander for helping me live up to my potential. Lastly I would like to thank all the other universities for offering me scholarships to play at the next level. With that being said I will be committing 100% to Indiana University."
